I walk into the school and head to my locker. I gather my gym shoes for next period and my books for English class. I close my locker and walk through the halls to try and find Jasmine. Luckily she's sitting at her locker listening to music. I sit down next to her as she glances up at me with a big smile.
"Hey!" She says happily. "Ready for gym?" She asks.
"Ya. We have that special activity outside. What do you think it'll be?" I say carrying on the conversation. Before she can answer the bells rings so we stand up and make our way towards the gym.
I put on my running shoes, shorts, a shirt and a light sweater over the top since we're going outside. When Jasmine finishes changing, we walk into the gym. The teacher stands the girls on one side of the gym and the guys on the other. He walks between us and begins to explain the activity.
"Alright alright settle down. Today, as you know, is our special activity outdoors. I will be observing you guys in groups of two and marking you based on your cooperation and your effort. Before school I set up the activity. You will have to find a series of ribbons outside on school grounds. They can be hidden anywhere. There are twenty ribbons of fourteen different colours. Obviously, because you are in groups of two, there will be fourteen groups. I will time how long it takes you to find all your ribbons. If the time runs out, then I count the amount of ribbons you collected. The ribbons count as points and will affect how I mark you. You can use any strategy you want to find these ribbons. When you finish don't help the other groups or move the ribbons so you can finish first. I will notice. Also, you guys can walk around as long as you're on school grounds. Do I need to repeat anything?" The teacher asks after the long explanation.
"No? No one? Good." The teacher takes out his attendance sheet and starts naming groups.
"Adrianna Adams and Paul Xavier. Ryan Brown and Justin Wright. Sara Daigle and Brent Timothy. Juliette Daniel and Harry Styles..." The teacher continues naming the groups but I stopped listening once I heard my name. My name was said along with Harry. I honestly don't feel like putting up with him right now.
I look over at Jasmine who's partnered with a guy named Dylan. She looks over at me, gestures her head towards Harry and winks. I roll my eyes and stick my tongue out at her.
"Alright you have 5 minutes to discuss your strategy and then you have until the end of class to collect the ribbons." The teacher advises us.
He walks around giving out the colours to the individual groups. Our colour is red. At least it will be more visible than other colours.
When Harry approaches me neither of us speak. We stand there staring at each other. I look away when the staring becomes awkward and try to look at anything but Harry. By the end of five minutes, we haven't said one word.
Great plan...
When the teacher blows the whistle to start, I start jogging outside with the crowd of students. We exit the doors on the far left of the building. I notice that groups of people scatter all around the school area searching in an unordered fashion. Some teams even split up. I grab Harry's arm before he runs away.
"Let's start completely on the left and work our way right. We're better off searching together. Twice the amount of searching." I explain as fast as I can. Once I finish, I take off running to the left as Harry follows close behind. Right away I notice several ribbons hanging, all of which are different colours.
We search together finding ribbons everywhere as we work our way to the right.
"Over there there's a lot." I tell Harry as we're nearing the last few ribbons. Harry sprints to the ribbons in the tree and grabs it while I run to the fence and grab the others. I count the ribbons in my hand as fast as I can.
