I sit in class gently playing with my pencil. I start by tapping it on my desk until the person sitting next to me gives me a nasty glare. I start trying to transfer the pencil from finger to finger but I keep dropping the pencil. I'm paying attention to the teacher. The teacher doesn't think I'm paying attention so she calls on me.
"Juliette so what is the answer?" The teacher challenges me.
"19.5" I answer monotonously.
"Um... yes." She says hesitantly while turning back to her board.
"Alright it seems to me that you guys understand this chapter so we're moving on." She says.
She hands us thick packages of notes for the next chapter.
She goes through the package with us explaining it on the board. I don't understand a word she's saying. She either goes too fast or too slow. Either I freak out because I don't understand or I lose interest in the subject. Whenever I ask her a question she never answers it directly. I sit there clutching my package frustrated. This happened last chapter. I had to teach it to myself to understand.
"You guys are going to have a test next Monday on what we learnt today in the new package." She announces as we leave.
You've got to be kidding me.
I storm to my locker and grab my things.
"Don't forget tonight..." Says someone behind me. I whip my head around to find a retreating head of brown curls.
******
After I suffered through the majority of my homework, I can finally get ready for tonight. The worst thing about doing homework is knowing that you can do so many other things but you're stuck with work.
I put my papers back in my bag and leave it by my bed.
What do I wear? I don't even know where we're going.
I decide to play it safe by wearing jeans with a brown belt, a long shirt that flows down to my hips and a cardigan. I grab a purse putting in my keys and phone. I walk downstairs and look around not knowing what to do.
I sit on the couch playing with my hair. I start trying to do a French braid on my own. I've successfully done the top of my head but my arms ache. I put my arms down in defeat and take out the braid in my hair. I run my fingers through my hair to remove the knots.
I hear a knock at the door and jump out of my seat. When I get to the door I take a deep breath and swiftly open it.
"Hi Harry." I say smiling at him. Instead of answering he looks me up and down and then turns on his heels. I quickly follow behind him walking towards his car.
When I get into the car, I glance at what Harry's wearing. Once again he wears a black shirt with black jeans and a black belt. I shake my head and look out the window as we pull out of my driveway.
We pass through the town without stopping. Where could he be taking me? I get anxious so I occupy myself by trying to guess where we're going.
We can't be going to the movies, we just passed that. Maybe a restaurant but why so far out?
We pass loads of trees until they finally thin out and I notice a bed of water. I haven't been this far down. I haven't had time to explore the area like I would've wanted to.
Harry parks in a space between the trees. I hesitantly get out of my car and look around. The trees are tall causing all the branches to be out of reach. When I look at eye level all I can see is brown- the bark from the trees. Some branches are scattered on the floor probably caused by high winds this close to the water.
