Today is the day.

Lauren is coming back and I'm so scared that I'll run into her somewhere. Will she even remember me? I decide to keep myself as busy as possible since it gives me less time to overthink this entire situation. After nearly 4 months of not talking to her I still have a tiny ray of hope shining within me. Maybe she just lost my number, or something.

But reality always crushes that bit of hope when I see a picture of her and her new girlfriend, Anna, on a magazine or talk show. She forgot about me. After more than a year of dating she just forgot about me.

How on earth do you forget a person?
One of the things I do to keep my mind busy, is to work at a small candy store a few blocks away from my apartment. My shift started about an hour ago and I haven't had many customers which doesn't help my situation. After counting almost every single tile on the floor, a new customer finally enters, making me lift my head off my arms as she tells me what she wants.

"Five cotton candies please." The familiar voice says. "Lauren ?" I hesitantly asks and her eyes grow twice their usual size. "Y/N?" She asks, her mouth hanging open. "Wow. I'm surprised you even remembered my name." I snap, grabbing the cotton candies and placing them on the counter.

"I- uh-" she stutters but I cut her off, telling her how much she needs to pay. "Here you go. You look good by the way. How have you been?" She asks casually and I laugh. "How have I been? You haven't talked to me the last few months and now you wonder how I am?" I ask.

Who does she think she is?

"Right. Sorry then. I guess I'll see you around?" She asks, about to leave and I feel like I'm ready to cry. "Don't count on it." I snap and she walks out. I don't even know what I feel at the moment but everything is so messed up. During my emotional moment, Lauren enters the store again.

"Can we talk please?" She asks and I raise and eyebrow. "You had all the time in the world to talk to me. Why now?" I wonder out loud. "Because I think there's been a misunderstanding." She says and I shake my head. "I doubt that." I challenge and she shakes her head.

"Stop being so stubborn. All I need is five minutes, yeah?" She asks and I roll my eyes as I flip to 'open' sign around to 'back in 5'. "You literally only have 5 minutes so hurry up." I tell her and she nods. "Why are you so mad at me?" She asks and I let out a bitter chuckle.

"You stopped talking to me without an explanation and without even breaking up with me, you get a new girlfriend. I think I have every right to be mad." I tell her and she only looks down at her feet. "I thought so. You forgot about me. We were together for more than a year but then you forgot about me." I say, turning around and busying myself with something.

"I didn't forget about you." I hear her mumble and I spin around. "Why then? Why did you do it?" I demand and a guilty look crosses her face. "It was a dare. We were fooling around and Dinah dared me to see how long you would go without saying something but you never did so I thought you wanted to move on." She explains and I shake my head. "I tried calling you but you changed you're number! That's a really shit excuse too by the way." I inform her and she half smiles.

"I know, but it's the truth. You know we only come up with bad ideas during truth or dare. Especially after being on the road for 36 hours straight." She says and I laugh, thinking back at all their dumb ideas. "Can we please start over? There was obviously a misunderstanding and I miss you." Lauren says and now I look down.

"I don't know, Laur..." I hesitate but she's quick to jump in. "Please? This will never ever happen again. It was stupid to begin with. We'll be better this time. I promise." She says and I slightly smile as she takes both my hands in hers. "I- Okay." I say, hoping I made the right choice.

"I love you. I'm sorry for making stupid choices, but I can't help it." She says and I laugh like I haven't in a while. "Love you too." I reply, enjoying the feeling of having her close to me again.
