          My step mom is waiting for me when I walk through the door along with my dad.
"We got a call from your school today." Kelly says
"That you had gotten into a fight.." Dad starts
"Now Julia you know better! You should not start fights." Kelly says sternly
"I didn't start it!" I say
"Who did?" Dad asks
"Jack.." I say quietly
"Jackson? He's a wonderful boy he wouldn't do something like that! Now who did?" Kelly asks
"It was Jack I swear I'm not lying." I exclaim
"You little brat. Tell the truth! Jackson would not do something like that!" She screams
"Now Kelly, calm down." Dad says
"Oh you're taking her side? Jackson wouldn't do that!" Kelly yells
Dad doesn't say anything. Kelly punches me in the arm.
"KELLY!" Dad yells
Tears line my eyes. I run out the door. I run down the road, I run up Max and Harvey's driveway but then I stop. Max doesn't need anything else to worry about. I start backing down the driveway. I run up the road more, but I hear their door open. I keep running. I stop at Colin's house. I knock on his door. He opens it.
"Julia? What's wrong?" He asks
"Everything." I say
"Is this about the whole Jack fight thing?" He asks
"And my step mom. She thinks Jack didn't start it and got mad at me. Then she punched me." I say
"Are you okay?" Colin asks
I shrug.
"Wanna come in?" He asks
I nod. He lets me. We go down to the basement.
"How's your relationship with Max?" Colin asks
"Fine. But I just don't want to worry him anymore with my mom and then this Jack thing." I say
"Yeah." Colin says
I sigh.
"You know, if we didn't break up none of this would've happened.." Colin says
"Yeah, yeah, yeah but we broke up for a reason." I say
Colin nods. Someone knocks on the door.
"If that's Max tell him I'm not here." I say
I run into the laundry room to hide. I hide in the small cubby space where towels are stored. I hear footsteps coming down the steps.
"Are you sure she's not here?" I hear max asks
"No I haven't seen her all day." Colin says
"Tilly said she saw her in the driveway but then she ran back down." Max says
"Oh. Well I haven't seen her." Colin says
"Ok. Just checking." Max says
I hear footsteps going back up the stairs, the door closes. I wait another minute.
"You can come out now." Colin says
I get up and walk back out into the main area.
"Thanks for covering for me." I say
Colin nods.
"I should get going. See you at school." I say
"Bye." Colin says
      I walk back up the street. I look around the bush, Max is on the porch Dang it. I look for a solution, if I go around the block it would take longer to get home. But if I just run past his house then I'd get home sooner. I take a deep breath and start sprinting. I keep running until I get past his house. All of the sudden I trip over something and fall to the ground.
