When life turns to be unfair

C h a p t e r 19: Pain facing sorrow.

As Valencia walked upstairs, Zack relaxed a little bit and sat on the couch. He took his phone and called his friend Ethan.

"Hi man! It's been a while since you last called. How are you?" Ethan spoke immediately.

A long sigh was followed by a deadly silence made him understand something was wrong.

"Dude, are you okay? Is something wrong with Valencia?"

"It's not just about her now... I'm in a big mess. What she's hiding is bigger than what we can guess and it's putting me and her in a big trouble. Everything happens for a reason. Someone set her up."

"What are you talking about Zack?"

"Can you come at eight?" Zack was breathing slowly, focusing not to lose his calm again.

"Okay... take care bro."

After he hung up, Zack stood up and walked to his room.

Declan felt less pressure after talking to his mother. Her voice helped him forget a little bit about what happened to his life in a short time.

How will I apologize to Valencia? I won't even be able to look at her in the eyes. How will I even live with this image in my head?

He ran a hand through his hair.

If I don't do what I'm asked, my only family will be gone and I wouldn't be able to accept that.

He just didn't know, in order to save his only family, he'll have to refuse the role of being the only hope.

It's really disturbing how much people can play with you once they know your weaknesses.

All of them forgot that they're probably in a cold battle against Valencia's father.

How can a father be so merciless with his girl? He's supposed to take care of her, be the hero and treat her like a princess.

Valencia didn't want to think of that. For her, her father died years ago, and he did treat her right until he lost himself. For her, the man who was destroying her new dreams is a murder and a rapist.

It was going to be easy if the past three years weren't full of dirt. It was going to be over from the first moment by going to the police. She needed a way to get out of it clean like she did before.

But this was different.

She was going to her brother's room to see if he got a letter too. It would make him more suspected if he found something like the one she got.

She knocked on the door and it didn't take a second to find herself facing him.

He didn't speak, she looked at him in the eyes. He was looking at her, but it was nothing like the usual. He was just observing her as if he was a body with nothing in.

"Zack... I... I wanted to make sure you're okay." She muttered, concerned.

His fists clenched but he kept the same expression. His lips moved to free some words with no tone behind. "I'm fine Val. You need to rest."
