Maya pov

I was running, not even noticing where I was heading. At that moment it just did not matter, I just had to get away, away from Josh, away from the pain. I thought I was stronger than this, that I was not that broken little thirteen year old girl anymore. Turns out I still was. My dungeon of sadness was opened once again.

I finally stopped, desperately trying to keep my tears from coming. When I had finally calmed down a little bit, I turned around. Trying to locate where I was, I had no idea. I was completely lost and alone in the dark side of New York.

"You lost huh?" A cold voice whispered behind me before grabbing my arm and dragging me into a completely dark alley. Another arm was muffling my screams. Trying to break free to no success, why does this happen to me?

I ran out and almost got hit by a car, but I didn't care, I had to find Maya. Turning around and trying to locate something that could maybe indicate where she went. She shouldn't be alone here at night. Almost giving up I notice something, a wave of blonde hair, running down the street, pretty far away before turning around a corner. Maya Hart was a lot of things but I did not know how fast she was. Without wasting any more time, I ran after her.

After following Mayas path around the corner I realized I did not see her. I just wanted to scream and rip my hair out. What have I done, she can't be alone. As I continued to walk I heard something from the dark alley next to me. It sounded like an muffled cry.

I quietly sneaked inside, keeping myself out of sight. The alley was L-shaped and that made it a lot easier for me to get a look without being seen. Carefully I tried to get a look at what was going on. The picture in front of me would haunt me for a long time forward.

Maya was sitting curled up in the corner. She had a deep gash over her left cheek, her clothes were ripped, only some small pieces of fabric over her body and that was not the worst part. The worst part was the terrified look in her eyes. She was still fighting the two men hovering over her but I knew she soon wouldn't have any energy left. I had to do something now, or they would break her in the worst possible way. I couldn't let that happen.

"C'mon girl, just play with us for a moment", one of the men laughed. He made my blood boil. He reached a hand over her head, she punched it away and kicked him in the leg. That's my girl.

"Ok, that's it! We were going to go gentle on you but you should be happy if you get out of this alive!", he screamed while the other man grabbed her foot, dragging her out of the corner. I didn't have a plan, I didn't think, but that didn't matter to me. I had to save her from those pieces of sh*t. Grabbing a long piece of metal from one of the pipes nearby I got up, fully aware that I might not survive this.
