Chapter 17

Maya pov

I had repaired myself. I didn't feel broken anymore. Nothing would ever be the same, I knew that but with Josh by my side I felt like I could conquer the world. Standing in the arms of Josh in the middle of the night was the best thing that had happened to me at that point in my life.

I started to go back to school, it was hard at first but I learned how to do it with the help of Riley. She kept me strong and I always had Josh at home. Even though I had met up with my mom and Shawn it just felt weird going back to my old home. I would still want to be with Josh the majority of my time and since Josh lived closer to my school they thought that it was okay if I stayed with him.

Life wasn't easy but you have to do the best that you can with what you get. Now its spring, I had turned eighteen earlier this year and I was about to graduate soon. My grades had gotten better even though I hadn't been accepted into a university yet. I was still waiting for my letter and even though I wasn't an straight A student I hoped that it would be enough to get into NYU. Riley had been accepted into NYU just a couple of days ago.

I had just gotten home from school and into the dorm with Riley. It was completely dark in the apartment. Weird, Josh should be home by now.

"Josh?" I called out while trying to turn on the light. Suddenly someone hugged me from behind.

"Congratulations Maya!" Josh whispered and suddenly the light turned on. Everybody was there, my mom, Shawn, Cory and Topanga, Farkle, Lucas and Smackle too. They were all cheering and I got really confused at first. My birthday were months ago. Then I saw it, a letter with my name on it, opened.

I ran towards the table with the letter and without hesitating I ripped it open and read it to myself. Riley was impatiently waiting for me to finish.

"I got in..." I whispered while holding the letter in front of me.

"What did you say?" Riley said trying to take the letter from me.

"I got in!" I screamed, making Riley jump in joy. Riley hugged me and suddenly everyone was around me, trying to get a hug. I looked around for Josh, he was sitting on the sofa with a proud smile on his face.

"You knew?" I asked him when everyone started to move out of the way. He pulled a hand through his hair.

"Kind of..." He looked a bit worried, probably because he thought I was mad at him for not waiting. It didn't matter to me, remembering when he got his accepting letter. I just ran and kissed him in front of everyone.

"I love you." He said while hugging me.

"I love you too." I answered not losing my focus on his eyes. We were playing the long game. We would always play the long game. No backing out now. We would always have each other's backs. I loved this boy and he loved me and somehow that was all that mattered in that moment.
