Josh pov

We kept our relationship a secret from basically everyone. Riley already knew, it was kind of impossible to keep it from her since she practically lived her. Maya had her own bed but since she still had nightmares she usually ended up in my bed in the middle of the night. It made her calm and since nothing else happened I was very ok with that. To feel her being close to me was the best way to keep the thoughts that I almost lost her away.

Maya was acting a bit more secure. She still stayed pretty much hidden from every boy and man that she met but she had started to talk with her mom and Topanga. They hadn't visited yet but it was only a matter of time.

I found out that Riley knew one day when Maya had went to take a nap. Riley had been acting a bit weird all day, looking at me just to instantly look at Maya before looking at me again.

"You kissed her?" She asked when she was sure Maya was asleep. She didn't warn me or anything which made me just sit there frozen and look at Mayas sleeping body.

"Josh! Did you kiss her or not?" She impatiently asked once again. She was stubborn, had always been. I turned my focus from Maya to Riley once again.

"I kissed her." I answered. I think she is a bit confused on how she should react because she bit her lip before answering.

"I'm happy for you. I truly am but don't hurt her Josh. The last time you hurt her she ran away. I'm not saying it's your fault but please be careful with her." She said, breaking the silence. I understood what she meant even though it still hurt.

"I won't. I could never hurt her." I answered and something in my voice probably changed her mind because she instantly got a goofy little smirk in her face.

"Good, so, did you do it?" She laughed at me for my sudden blush.

"W-what do you mean?" I stuttered embarrassed. Of course I knew what she meant but that subject wasn't really something I wanted to talk about with my niece.

"You know what I mean Josh." She laughed, very close to starting to cry from laughing so much probably. "Did you do it?" She continued. I had never before in my life wanted to push a person out of their chair as much as then.

"C'mon you can tell me!" She chuckled, turning red because of the laughter.

"That is not a subject that I'm going to discuss with you Riles! And no, we didn't do it." I answered while throwing the newspaper at my goofy and annoying little niece. How can someone that is so little be so damn annoying? When she was done laughing she looked down on the newspaper that I still hadn't read yet. Her eyes turned glossy when she looked at the front-page.

"What is it Riles? Did I hurt you?" I asked worriedly. I didn't throw it that hard did I? She shakes her head. Good.

"They still haven't found them?" She asked me while not breaking eye contact with the front-page. She passed me the newspaper and I immediately understood her reaction. On the first page there were big pictures of the sketch that the police drew after Maya's abuse, her monsters. I felt myself ripping the picture apart. I hated those faces and I was not going to let Maya be afraid in my home. The war wasn't going to stop until these bastards are kept in prison.
