A week had passed since Simon and I made our relationship official. He was with his daughter so I wouldn't be able to see him until Sunday night, which was still two days away. 'I have donuts and ice cream!' Laura yelled entering my house with her arms full of junk food. 'What's this for?' I asked walking into the kitchen. She set all of the food on the counter and then took a seat at the table. 'Just needed some girl time. Daniel and I had a huge fight.' She buried her face into her hands and broke down crying. I crouched down in front of her and rubbed her legs, 'what happened babe? Wanna just get drunk and eat bad food while we watch some funny movies? It'll make you feel better.' I grabbed her hand and escorted her to the sofa in the living room. 'You sit here and pick a movie and I'll get the drinks and snacks.' She plopped down into the cushions and covered herself with the faux fur throw. 'Make the drinks strong!' She yelled as I walked out. 'You got it!' I replied. In the year that Laura and Daniel had been married I had never seen her this upset. They were the definition of a perfect couple but I guess it just goes to show you never know what happens behind closed doors.
I returned to the living room with our drinks in hand on a tray pilled high with the food Laura brought plus candy and popcorn. 'You're the best!' She said as I set the tray on the coffee table and sat beside her. 'So how are things with you and Simon?' Laura asked while she was still searching for a movie. 'They're good. I haven't seen him since last week cause he has his daughter but we've been talking everyday. He's just so different from the others I've been with.' I traced the top of my glass with my finger thinking about how much Simon's already changed my life. 'Are you going to meet his daughter?' She asked giving me a questioning look. 'We've talked about it some but I'm just going to leave it up to Simon. That's a big step.' I told her trying not to think about it. The truth was I wasn't sure I was ready for that. Meeting your partner's kid is a lot to deal with in so many different ways and I never want Simon to feel rushed to introduce us. 'How about Bridesmaids?' I said changing the subject. The movie started and we got comfortable on the sofa with all of our essentials. 'Thanks for making me feel better. I love you.' Laura said halfway through our second movie as she laid her head on my shoulder. 'I love you too.' I said placing a kiss on her foreword and shoving another donut in her mouth. 'Friends that get fat together stay together.' We clicked our glasses and took another shot of the tequila we had started drinking because our other drinks just weren't cutting it.
I woke up to an ache in my neck and a knock at the front door. I looked around for my phone to check the time, half past ten, it read with the sun blinding me as I walked to answer the door. Struggling to open the door without waking Laura, I saw Daniel on the other side. 'Hey, Adele. I hate to come by like this but is Laura still here?' He asked softly. His eyes were bloodshot from either crying or having to much to drink, like the two of us, and he looked like he just rolled out of bed without changing or looking in the mirror. But who was I to judge. 'She's asleep on the sofa.' I told him, opening the door wider for him to come in. He hugged me and I could smell the whiskey all over him. 'Hey, Daniel, why don't you go upstairs and take a shower first. I'll bring you some of my boyfriend's clothes to borrow.' He gave me a soft nod. 'Do I smell that bad?' I gave him a sincere smile and nodded. 'I'll have breakfast waiting for you.' Daniel slowly made his way into my guest bathroom and I went into the kitchen, debating on whether or not to wake Laura and tell her who was here. After pacing back and forth multiple times I decided I should tell her. 'Laura... Babe, wake up.' I shook her gently and sat by her head with a glass of coconut water in my hand. She reluctantly opened her eyes and gave me a death stare. 'My head is pounding and I'm trying not to throw up all over you right now.' I handed her the water and waited a few seconds. 'Daniel's here.' I blurted out. Laura let out a long sigh and pulled the blanket over her head. 'He's in the shower but he looked terrible when I opened the door. You think you feel rough, you should see him.' She pulled the blanket down and rolled her eyes. 'I don't know if I can face him yet. Especially being this hungover.' I helped her sit up and then grabbed her hands. 'Let's get you washed up and then see what happens. He's your husband, you can't avoid him.'
Once Daniel and Laura were both cleaned up, all three of us sat down and ate some breakfast, or as much as we could without feeling sick from our hangovers. The tension in the room became unbearable and I got up from the table to go into another room. 'The both of you need to talk so I'm going to excuse myself.' After walking out I turned on the tv to catch up on some shows but kept the volume down so I could hear what was going on. 'Are we going to talk?' Daniel asked Laura. She shrugged her shoulders and crossed her arms. 'I'll talk then. This whole thing was a misunderstanding. Do you know why I've been so secretive these past couple of weeks?' Laura shook her head but still avoiding eye contact with him. 'I was planning a surprise vacation for you because you deserve it. But you're so good at finding stuff out that I needed to be extra careful. Anything you thought I would do or was doing never happened or will it ever. I love you and only you.' Daniel moved seats so he was sitting next to Laura. 'You're my wife till the day I day.' He said taking her hands in his. 'I'm sorry I overreacted. It's not like me and I'm truly sorry.' She said leaning into him.
After hearing them make up I was ball of emotions and found myself crying for simply no reason at all. 'Laura, you're such a drama queen!' I shouted into the kitchen. 'Learned from the best.' She yelled back and all three of us laughed. 'Go home you love birds. I gotta hangover to treat.' I said walking back into the kitchen. 'Let's go home, my wife. I'll even stop at the disgusting ice cream shop just for you.' Daniel said wrapping his arm over Laura's shoulder. 'Thank you, Adele. I'd never want to get drunk with anyone else.' Laura said giving me a hug as I opened the door for them. 'Drinking buddies for life.' A final hug from Daniel and they were gone.
