I woke up to the sound of Simon's bedroom door opening and little footsteps walking towards the bed. I started to sit up and saw Scarlett, 'is everything okay?' I asked her. 'Can I sleep in daddy's bed?' She tearfully asked. I motioned for her to get in the bed and she climbed in between Simon and I. This was quite different for me to have a little kid sleep next to me but she was quickly capturing my heart. I pulled the blankets over her and rubbed her back till she fell back asleep. 'Adele.' Simon said shaking me awake. I was still asleep facing away from him. 'What?' I asked not wanting to open my eyes. 'I have to run to work real quick. I'll be back in a couple of hours.' He said getting up. I sat up immediately and grabbed his arm as he walked by. 'Are you sure that's okay? I mean I just met her yesterday.' Simon let out a soft giggle and kissed the top of my head. 'As long as you keep her entertained and feed her you'll be fine.' I laid back down and watched Simon change his clothes through the crack of the bathroom door, from him not closing it all the way. And then I felt a foot kick straight into my stomach. 'Ouch.' I moaned moving Scarlett over to Simon's side. When he was ready to leave Simon kissed me goodbye and then I waited for the sound of the front door to close. I wasn't sure what Scarlett would want for breakfast so I decided to watch tv until she woke up.

Around nine, Scarlett started waking up. 'Where's my daddy?' She asked in a sleepy voice as she sat up rubbing her eyes. 'He had to go to work but he'll be home soon. Do you want some breakfast?' I asked turning the tv off. 'Pancakes, please.' I nodded my head and then walked into the bathroom to change. 'Can you carry me? I'm still sleepy.' She said holding her arms up. I picked her up and started walking down the stairs to the kitchen. 'Would you like to be my special helper? It's a very important job.' Her eyes instantly lit up and a smile covered her entire face. I helped her mix the ingredients and then let her decorate each pancake with designs made from chocolate chips. 'This is so much fun!' She shrieked stepping down from the step stool and running in circles around me. Once the food was ready I made Scarlett's plate and set it in front of her at the table. 'Juice or milk?' I asked opening the refrigerator. 'Chocolate milk.' She responded with a mouth full of pancakes.

When breakfast was over we settled onto the sofa in the living room for some cartoons. 'What are we doing today?' Scarlett asked looking up at me during the adverts. I shook my head and unglued my eyes from the tv to the little girl sitting next to me. 'Anything you want. We'll have a fun Adele and Scarlett day.' I told her. Besides a friend that just had baby and some cousins I really wasn't around children enough to know what they liked to do. Scarlett sat in silence for a few minutes with a serious look on her face. 'Do you live here?' She asked catching me off guard. I wasn't quite sure what I should say or if Simon had even told her about the new house yet. 'Well... sometimes I do.' I carefully responded. 'Do you and daddy play any games?' I chuckled to myself thinking about all the things we do that I wouldn't be able to tell her. 'I guess. But you know what game we love to play?' She gave me a questioning look. 'Tickle monster.' I said tickling her sides, which made her laugh so hard her face started to turn red. We focused our attention back to the program when the adverts finished. 'I hope you stay here forever.' She said wrapping my arm around her. 'Me too.' I whispered as I smiled to myself.

Once the cartoons were over both of us got dressed and decided we would walk a few minutes away to the park. As we approached the play area, Scarlett pulled me towards the swings and begged me to push her. After we spent almost two hours playing, I got a text from Simon saying he was on his way home. 'Scarlett, your dad's going to be home soon. Let's go surprise him.' I said trying to persuade her to leave. 'Okay, but can we come back?' She pleaded. 'We can tomorrow and maybe dad will come too.' I promised as we made our way back home just as Simon was pulling into the driveway. 'Daddy!' Scarlett screamed letting go of my hand and running to him. 'Hi, princess.' He said scooping her open and spinning around in circles. 'I missed you so much.' She said squeezing his face with her hands. 'How'd it go babe?' He asked giving me a quick kiss. 'Good. We made pancakes, watched tv, and went to the park.' I said following them inside. We all settled into the living room to wind down while we waited for our takeaway to arrive. After eating Scarlett fell asleep in Simon's lap and I tidied up the mess from the day.

'Baby, have you told Scarlett about the new house?' I asked as Simon was getting ready for bed. He shook his head and turned to face me. 'Why?' He asked. 'Just wondering. She was just asking some questions earlier and I was just wondering that's all.' I told him unmaking my side of the bed. 'I'll tell her tomorrow. I promise.' He said giving me a reassuring look. 'So she was good today.' Simon inquired moving his pillow so he could sit up. 'Yeah we had a lot of fun. I just don't want to ever disappoint her or you.' I responded tracing my finger over the veins in his hand. 'Adele, that'll never happen. Can I tell you a secret?' I looked up at him and met his eyes with mine. 'She doesn't like a lot of people including her mum's new husband. If she likes you you've made it in her eyes.' I returned a shy smile and positioned myself so that my head was laying on his chest. 'Do I get a prize for passing the test?' I playfully asked giving him a seductive look. 'You're the biggest tease.' He said pinning me under him. 'But you love it.' I replied taking his sweatpants off. 'I love everything about you.' Simon exclaimed moving my arms above my head and smashing into my lips. I let out a muffled moan when things started getting hotter. 'I want every single piece of you.' I whispered in his ear.
