POCKETS

ALMOST 2 YEARS LATER

BORUTO UZUMAKI

My pockets are empty. Scarily empty. Horrifyingly empty. I gave my mother a look and she just winked at me.

"She'll thank you one day." She smiled.

"Yuh huh, will that be before or after I'm super broke?"

"After." Dad said walking in a grin plastered on his face. "Is it today then?"

"Shut up!" I blushed burying my face in my hands. "It was supposed to be yesterday but-"

"You chickened out again?!" Hima growled sliding down the staircase on her butt.

"Like I said, shut up! The Hyuga twins showed up again. You don't think they're crushing on her, are they?"

"They're way younger than her!" Mom said covering her smile with her hands. "They're just up to something like always."

"Right. But they wouldn't leave and I'm stuck with it again today."

"Does it feel like a million bricks?" Dad said putting his ramen in the microwave.

"Yeah, how do you know that?"

"Boruto, I proposed once too, ya know?!" My mother giggled. They're both so excited. It wasn't my idea to tell them what I had been planning but all of them are so damn snoopy. Is it normal for Himawari to just go digging through my sock drawer? How am I supposed to keep anything a secret?! My finances are in shambles. "I remember that when I carried it around in my pocket I felt like my entire body was filled with lead and my heart wouldn't stop beating super fast, it was only after I hid the ring again that I was able to breathe properly. I was a complete wreck."

"Of course you were." I sigh. "It'll be worth it right?" Then an idea strikes me that digs a hole in my chest. "What if she says no?!"

"She won't say no." Dad and mom said together. Hima just shook her head in dismay.

"You don't know that!"

"I do know that." Mom said reassuringly. "She loves you."

"Doesn't really mean she'll say yes!"

"She will." Dad grinned. "She just will."

"You amaze me sometimes." Hima shook her head picking herself up off the steps and sitting down next to me. "You really just don't get it."

"Get what?"

"How women work."

"How am I supposed to know that? I'm a guy!"

Hima rolled her eyes. "Of course, but I thought that maybe you could try a little bit harder to understand now that you're gonna ask her."

"One does not simply-"

"Whatever! Whatever!" Hima said stopping me. "You have to make an attempt to understand her feelings. You've been going out with her for over a year now-"

"We've broken up before!"

"That was petty." Hima shook her head. "You were really young back then. And you said a lot of stupid crap."

I shut up then. "What should I say? When should I say it?"

"Nii-san. Look at me." Hima said and I met her eyes. "Pull her aside. No distractions. Just the two of you. Look her in the eye. Tell her how much you love her. Tell her how much being with her has made you better. Tell her how much she means to you. Then get down on one knee and ask her."

I swallowed hard. "Tonight?"

"Tonight."

SARADA UCHIHA

Boruto had asked me out tonight. No idea where. My mother kept giving me weird looks and whenever I asked her why she just smiled and turned away. No matter how hard I pressed her she wouldn't explain. When I went back to my room after dinner I found a dress laying on my bed. It was beautiful, blue, gorgeous without being formal. Elegant without being restricting. When I asked my mom where she had gotten it she just smiled and said that she had been waiting to give it to me. I couldn't get her to say anything more. So, deciding that it was useless to resist I pulled the dress on and brushed my hair out before going to find Boruto. I walked up to his house, slightly closer than it used to be, and knocked on the door.

I smiled as I heard several crashing noises coming from inside. I could hear just barely muffled. "Boruto, move your ass, go get her!" "I believe in your nii-chan!" "I love you!" Then I watched as the door opened on my boyfriend. His hair was a clear sign that his parents were making him dress up for some reason too. It was flattened down the center but his curls were fighting against the gel and beginning to spike up as I watched him. I could tell even without my Sharingan that his hands were shaking.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"You sure?" I said giving him a second glance. He shoved his hands in his pockets to keep me from watching them.

"Yeah." He cleared his throat. "I do have things planned tonight, actually."

"Is that so?" I smile. "I'm proud of you."

"I am too." Boruto grinned.

"So where are you taking me?"

"You'll see."
