"Mornin' Matthias!" the (h/c) teen greeted as she slid into the passenger seat. Taking a glance around the backseat, she noted, "No Lukas today?"

The Dane gave her a smile and a shake of the head, his hair bouncing against gravity. "Nope. He decided he was gonna see Emil off today. I didn't want to wait around."

"You're such a generous guy, Mathi." (Name) teased, flicking his nose gently. He flashed her another grin before starting to drive away from her house, heading in the general direction of their high school. After driving in almost silence, (the latest pop song was gently coming out of the speakers) Matthias broke it. "Any tests today?"

The (h/c) girl sighed and rolled her eyes. "Not today. I think the teachers are just waiting for us to leave. I mean, it's not like I love tests or anything, but they just lecture us all day about how hard college is going to be. I have older siblings. I already know all of the difficulties and what not."

She turned her head to look out the window, finishing her rant for the day. Matthias felt his cheeks turn up into a grin that would bring the Cheshire Cat to shame. "Well, in that case..." He quickly made a u-turn, speeding away from their location.

(Name) jerked out out of her daze, (e/c) eyes the size of saucers. "Matthias! School's the other way!"

The Dane snorted. "I know that. Come on, (Name), we're second half seniors. Taking a day off from school won't kill us." Matthias's smile grew as the girl snorted and sat back down, arms crossed.

"Alright. You better have a plan, 'Mr. King.'" The (h/c) teased. Matthias knew he'd one and that she wasn't really mad at him. Plus, he has much experience in skipping because he does it all the time with his pals Gilbert and Alfred. He knew that places to go where no questions would be asked. (Name) really couldn't have asked for a better tour guide.

"Of course I know what we're gonna do! In fact," Matthias paused as he focused on his parking job for a moment, "we're already at our first stop, (Name)."

The girl looked out the window for a moment, before turning back to Matthias with a slight scowl on her face. "The movie theater? Honestly, Mathi, don't you think someone we know will spot us?"

"They won't!" He opened his door, rushed around to her side and pulled her out too. "Besides," he stated while dragging her to the building, "at this hour, it will be full of old grannies."

Deciding not to argue anymore, (Name) allowed herself to be dragged into seeing the new action movie. Matthias was correct.

"What's next on the agenda, oh King." (Name) chuckled, loosening up after the movie. "It's around noon... Let me guess, we go get lunch?"

Matthias put a finger to his chin in thought. "Close, but not quite."

"Oh? Then what?"

"Ya' eat ice cream! Don't you know anything about playing hookie?" Matthias chuckled, obviously amused.

"Considering I've never really done it, no. However, I'm sure that even though we're playing hookie, that doesn't mean we can't have a normal lunch, Matthias."

Matthias pouted, but decided to cave. He never really guessed ditching school with (Name) would be different then with Gil or Al, but then again, with others you make your own experiences and so far, he couldn't complain about the day's turn of events. Besides, they settled on a compromise to go to Friendly's so Matthias could get his ice cream anyway.

After a nice lunch, the two of you hit the road again. Now it was pretty close to when school would end anyway. "Now what? We head home and act like we went to school? Doesn't the school call or something if we're absent?" (Name) questioned, starting to get worried of the consequences that she should have thought about before allowing Mathi to drag her into all this.

"Nah, they don't care enough to do that. 'Specially 'cause it's like, your first time being out." Matthias grinned, looking pleased with himself. "I, on the other hand, will need to give them a note tomorrow. Whatever. I've gotten pretty good at forging signatures."

"You are a true bad ass, Mathi." (Name) rolled her eyes. "I don't know how I could ever keep up with you. Alright. Now take me home."

"Hang on, there's one last place we have to go." Seeing the girl's look, he quickly continued, "Relax. We have another half hour to kill before heading home." He started the car, driving to their last destination. "Close your eyes."

(Name) gives him a questioning look, but after seeing Matthias's pleading look she obliges and closes her eyes, deciding not to voice her questions either. "We're almost there..." She heard the Dane mutter before soon pulling to a stop. "Keep those eyes closed! Don't worry, I'll guide you." He pulled her out of the car and started slowly leading her somewhere. They started moving on a heavy incline, Matthias mumbling things like, "root there," and things along the line. Finally they stopped, and Matthias told (Name) that she could open her eyes. The sight before her was amazing. Matthias had led (Name) to a hill, below them a beautiful view of just random nature. Finding her voice, (Name) questioned with a tone of disbelief, "You and the clowns come here?" She glanced at Matthias, his blue eyes still looking off.

"No, this is just a place I come for some peace... Everyone needs it sometimes." His eyes finally met her's, and he shows a soft, uncharacteristic smile. "It's nice though, right?"

(Name) nods, eyes glancing back to the sight. It was at that moment that (Name) knew she was important to Matthias. Feeling bold, she grabs his hand and quickly pecks his cheek. "Thank you, Matthias. For today."

(Name) looked back out to the sight, cheeks blazing red, when she felt his lips graze back over her cheek as a welcome. Hand in hand, they two of you turned away from the scene and started the trek back to reality after a truly beautiful day of playing hookie.

---Extended Ending---

Lukas was sitting on Matthias's front porch, waiting for the Dane to come home. He was going to learn to never, ever leave Lukas to walk to school EVER again.
