This was it.
You were out of that Irene-forsaken tower and into the real world. You could feel the fresh air in your lungs, the grass against your back, the moonlight on your face,
And Vylad's body weight on you.
"Get off me!" Your voice was muffled partially by his hair in your face.
When all he responded with was a snore, you resorted to kneeing him in the stomach. Letting out a yelp, he tumbled off you and onto the grassy forest floor. If you weren't gasping for air, you would have laughed.
"Irene," You wheezed, "You need to cut down on... whatever you eat!"
"Human souls?"
You glanced over at his smirking face, your eyes widening, "Um... you do you, Vylad. But please don't eat my soul, I'm quite attached to it."
"I was joking-"
"Oh."
"-I only eat human souls when I'm really hungry."
"Yeah," You pushed yourself up and off the ground, "I'm going to stop you right there before I regret coming with you any more than I already do."
He stretched and grabbed his sword, chuckling. "I can't see how you'd regret coming with me, the charming rogue."
"You're also quite the snuggler." You grabbed your pack and pulled it on.
"I don't know why you wouldn't like that. I personally think I'm a good snuggler."
"I beg to differ."
The two of you began your journey to the nearest town, in hopes of gathering supplies. You had only been gone for a week now, but there was no doubt your parents probably had the whole army looking for you. In result, disguises became the number one priority.
The first town that you and Vylad reached was quaint and remoter enough no one would recognize you. No one that lived in your hometown would recognize you either, though, since you'd been in that tower for so long. Glancing around as Vylad bartered with a farmer, you let your surroundings sink it. It felt like so long since you had been out in the open. So long, you barely remembered what sunlight felt like.
And you never wanted to forget that.
"Welp, I got us some clothes," Vylad's voice pulled you out of your daze, "They're not fancy, but they'll work."
"As long as I don't have to wear a dress." You shrugged, accepting the clothes that were offered to you, "Thanks."
"I do what I can."
You both set off once again to the next town, hoping maybe to find horses there. You wouldn't lie; you were not used to this much walking. But you figured you'd have to get used to it eventually.
That got you thinking. What were you doing? Where were you going to go? You had just escaped out of your prison, but what now? You clearly hadn't planned this out.
"Thinking about the meaning life?"
You looked over to see Vylad grinning at you. Something about him, maybe it was his smile, or his eyes, made you want to tell him your life story. Reveal to him your biggest, darkest secrets, and just laugh for hours to him about how many times you'd failed at something. You just wanted to confide in him.
So you did.
You expressed to him that you had absolutely no idea what you were going to do with your life. Escaping from a highly-guarded tower simply didn't inspire one to go and do great things. As you vented your emotions to Vylad, his expression turned from playful to understanding.
Realizing this, you stopped. "Care to tell me your story, then? Since I just told you mine?"
He chuckled. "It's a pretty similar story, I-"
Suddenly, the sound of hooves hitting the ground filled the air and became louder and louder. Your brown-haired comrade grabbed your arm and pulled you into the bushes as a group of guards on horses broke through the trees. Both you and Vylad held your breaths as they came to a stop.
"He's been here." A blonde-haired male, whom clearly lead the group, glanced around.
"How do you know?" The male's comrade questioned, trotting his horse up beside him.
The man just gave his friend a knowing look and they turned back to the group. He nodded at the group and they set off once again.
The second they were gone, you yanked Vylad up and out of the bushes. "Who was that?"
"Someone I used to know."

I'm splitting this up into a couple parts, and then I will probably put it all together when I'm finished because this is really all I have time to write. Sorry!
