"You are literally the prettiest person I know, I swear, Aphmau," The blue-haired girl shook her head and sighed, "I don't know why you even think twice about going out there and just socializing."
"Nah, I'm good," Aphmau shook her head, "I really enjoying hiding in a bathroom in the house of my crush while he flirts with fifty other girls."
The small girl held back a laugh as her friend groaned and banged her head on the door. Katelyn could have been out in the fray, enjoying her night but instead, she chose to stay with Aphmau. That was a true friend, alright, especially since the blue-haired girl probably looked like an absolute weirdo sitting outside the bathroom door and talking through the wood.
Aphmau didn't know how she was dragged to this party. One moment she was talking to Lucinda about what she was doing that night, and the next she was at the Ro'Meave household watching under-age teens chug down shots.
This was the true high school experience, she bet.
"Aph, I will pay you to come out of the bathroom," Katelyn begged.
After a moment of silence, Aphmau replied.
"How much?"
"Me. You. Anime. We watch until dawn."
She considered the offer. "Fine."
Reaching up, she unlocked the door and dragged herself out. Maybe she could enjoy herself tonight, who knew? Katelyn reached down and grabbed her arm, yanking her up.
"Now, you are going to go talk to your friends and enjoy your night, okay?" Katelyn stated, as though it wasn't even a question.
"Okay, okay," Aphmau winked at her, "Now, you go kiss Travis."
Before Katelyn could catch her, she zoomed off, laughing. Katelyn's shouts were soon drowned off by the too-loud music and shouts of fellow party-goers. Blinding colorful lights made her feel like she was at a rave rather than a party. It sure sounded like a rave.
Aphmau passed by a girl who seemed to be in deep conversation with her white-haired friend next to her. "Baby shoes, Emi, baby shoes!"
"Like little Uggs?" Her friend scratched her head.
"No, no! Crocs!"
Aphmau chuckled at the two and continued making her way through the party. A familiar brown-haired boy caught her eye, and he sent a wave her way. She waved back, grinning at the midnight-brown-haired girl next to him, who was ranting about some sort of cookies.
Vylad did always attract the cool ones.
On the bright side, it seemed most of the people there were decent. Especially the one talking about baby shoes; she knew what was up.
And then Aphmau saw him.
As if it wasn't already hard not to spot him, the multiple girls surrounding him only made the blonde harder to ignore. She kept her head down as she passed them, hearing snippets of their conversation as the girls gave her sneers.
"Ugly", "potato", "What's she doing here anyways?", they were all too familiar. Garroth didn't even give her a second glance.
Suddenly, all the anxiety she had kept came up. Quickening her pace, she rushed past the rest of the drunk or crazy teens and kept her eyes on a far-off wall at the back of the house. Finally, she reached the Irene-forsaken wall and rested her head against it. This was too much.
"Why aren't you enjoying the party, beautiful?" A deep voice sounded from behind her.
The raven-haired girl let out a yelp and jumped, turning to see Laurence chuckling. She narrowed her eyes at him playfully and stuck her tongue out.
"Don't do that," She sighed, leaning against the wall.
"Sorry, sorry," He grinned, leaning beside her, "but really, why aren't you out there having fun?"
She tapped her finger against her chin. "Well, this isn't really my scene."
"Me, too." He replied.
She raised an eyebrow at him, "Really?"
"Yes, really," The brown-haired teen confirmed, "Never did like these parties."
Aphmau didn't expect that. It just seemed like Laurence would be the sort of guy to like these things. Dancing, drinking, flirting. It just seemed like... him. But apparently, she didn't know him as well as she thought.
"Why not?" She gestured to the sight before them, "Everyone's laughing and having fun. I thought you liked that sort of thing."
"Sometimes," He shrugged, "But after a while, it gets... annoying."
"I can see where you're coming from," The female mused, "It does seem to get old after a while."
"Wanna ditch this?" He suggested suddenly.
His question caught her off guard. But what did she really have to stay for? Other than Katelyn she didn't have any obligations to people to stay. She could text Katelyn later.
"Sounds great," She smiled, "Let's go."
"I used to go here as a kid," Laurence explained as they sat in a booth.
The male had somehow convinced Aphmau to go to a nearby diner. Cute and old-fashioned, it looked exactly like the sort of 90's diner one had only dreamed of visiting. Checkered white and black tile floors and red bar stools made the girl feel like she was in a movie.
Needless to say, Aphmau liked it very much.
"Never been here before," She admitted, her eyes still welcoming the new sights.
He snorted, "I didn't think you would have."
Narrowing her eyes at him, she sent him a playful glare, "What's that suppose to mean."
"Whatever you want to take it as," He grinned, "Now, the best thing here is the fries, I'm telling you... but what do you want?"
It had been a very long time since Aphmau had ever had someone genuinely want to know what she wanted. It almost felt odd, like it wasn't right. Shaking her head, she smiled.
"I think I'll try the fries."
