"I feel like that shouldn't be bubbling, but you know what, I'm going to ignore that." Katelyn glanced at the spell vortex her white-haired comrade was making.

Travis gave the blue-haired mermaid a wink as her face paled. She was starting to realize how much of a mistake it was letting him make the spell; he clearly didn't have much experience in the field. But he had insisted, so she couldn't really stop him.

This could mean nothing but trouble.

"Well, Miss 'I'm a Siren now', what do you suggest it should look like?" He raised an eyebrow.

She glanced at the spell scroll that floated above the two, "Maybe like the picture."

He feigned an annoyed huff, "Can I not improvise?"

"As long as you don't kill one of us. Or anyone," She grimaced, "Or anything."

The merman only chuckled and turned his attention back to the bubbling spell vortex. Surely a spell meant to create a water vortex wasn't suppose to be bubbling. The bluenette returned to her notes, grazing the scribbled words with her finger. She missed the days in which all she had to worry about was her studies, passing or failing, and becoming a siren. And Travis, of course. Those were the days.

But now her kingdom was at war, and not a little one either. The whole ocean was at war. Kingdom against kingdom, brother against brother. A lump rose in Katelyn's throat as she thought of her brothers. She had no idea where they were, what they were doing.

If they were alive.

She pushed her fear back down. That's why she had to win this war, for her brothers. She just had to master this spell and then they could run off. Travis and she could join the rebel group and fight back. They could win.

"Blueberry?"

A worried voice pulled her out of her thoughts as a hand rested on her shoulder. She glanced into the emerald green eyes that looked like they were made from jewels.

"Tractor?" She chuckled, feeling the warm tears roll down her face.

"It's going to be okay," He pulled her into his embrace, "As long as we have each other."

"I sure hope it will."
