We're all in this together.
Those were the distinctive words printed on your back.
Reaching for your phone, you scrolled through your contacts causally and clicked on Aphmau's name. Pressing the cold screen up to your ear, you hummed calmly as you waited for Aphmau to pick up. Finally, there was a quiet click on the other side of the line and Aphmau's voice rang through loudly and excitedly.
"Did you get yours?!"
"No, no, I totally didn't get the mark that everyone get's on the day they turn eighteen." You chuckled.
"Oh my Irene what is it?!" Aphmau practically screamed as You continued laughing. Your laughing began to sound hysterical.
"Um, Y/N?" Aphmau questioned hesitantly. "Are you crying?"
You failed to choke back sobs, as you felt tears streaming down your face.
"No, no no." You sobbed.
"Oh, Y/N, It's okay." She said soothingly. "Tell me what's wrong."
"We're all in this together" You laughed hysterically through her tears. "My soulmark is 'We're all in this together', Aphmau."
The other side was silent for a few seconds, before Aphmau's voice came back through quietly. "Isn't that from High School Musical?"
"Yes, yes it is."
Suddenly, you straightened up and your mouth formed an o.
"Oh my Irene, Oh. My. Irene." You choked out, your eyes widening.
"What? WHAT?" Aphmau asked in panic.
"Does that mean Zac Efron is my soulmate?"
After many tissues, a bucket of ice cream and re-watching High School Musical three times, You finally came to the conclusion that Zac Efron was not your soulmate.
That led you to conclude that your soulmate really liked High School Musical.
You could live with that.
The next Monday, you headed to school. As a senior, it wasn't uncommon for you to already have your soulmark. It was uncommon for you to already know your soulmate, so at least you could mark out pretty much your whole grade and a majority of the school.
You were more than okay with that.
You didn't want to meet your soulmate, yet. You weren't in any way prepared, and you doubted your soulmate was either. You were still in high school!
Making your way to your seat, you plopped down next to your friend, Laurence Zhval.
"Hey Y/N!" He flashed his signature Colgate smile at you and you grin back at him.
"Hey, what's up?" You ask, pulling out your textbook and leafing to the page listed on the board.
"The opposite of down." Laurence smirked and leaned back in his seat.
You clucked your tongue and shook your head, still looking at your textbook. "Laurence, Laurence, Laurence. Don't smart talk me."
He chuckled and opened his mouth to respond when your teacher suddenly called you to her desk. You shrugged at Laurence and made your way to her desk.
"Yes, Ma'am?"
"Y/N, I'm going to need to talk to you outside." She motioned towards the door and you gulped.
Were you in trouble? You didn't remember doing anything bad, and you certainly hadn't broken any rules. You were all about abiding the rules.
You followed your teacher out to the hall. Once you were outside the classroom, she handed you a paper. Looking at it, you realized it was the test you had taken last week.
"This is your test, correct?" Your teacher inquired.
You nodded.
The teacher held up another paper. It had the exact same score written at the top, and the same wrong answer on number three just like yours.
"This is Michi's. If I'm not mistaken, you have the exact same answers as her. Care to explain why?"
You felt panic rise in your chest. You hadn't cheated, you hadn't even looked up from your test while taking it.
"I didn't cheat, Ma'am-" You started.
"Really? Because it seems to be otherwise." She glared at you.
You felt yourself coming close to tears. Oh Irene, why you?
"I'm disappointed in you, Y/N. I thought you were better than this." She shook her head, and you felt tears running down your face.
"I didn't cheat, I swear!" You choked out, trying not to sob.
Your teacher just shook her head again. "I find it quite hard to believe that, Y/N-"
"She didn't cheat."
You and your teacher looked up to see Laurence standing a couple feet away.
"Mr. Zvahl-" your teacher began, only to be cut off once more.
"She didn't cheat. Michi copied off her." Laurence glared at the teacher. "And you have no right to accuse her."
The teacher glared back. "Fine. I shall take this into account, Mr. Zvahl. But I want the two of you out if my classroom until I clear this up."
And with that, she walked away.
You watched her walk away before letting out a sob and then bursting into tears.
You felt Laurence wrap his arms around you and you into him as you sobbed. "I d-didn't cheat."
"It's okay, Y/N." He petted your hair. "It's okay."
After a few minutes of tears, you finally stopped enough for you to breathe properly.
"T-thank you, Laurence." You wiped a leftover teardrop from you face.
"No problem." He smiled. "After all, we're all in this together."
