It was the first day of school. I got up, got dressed in the usual, straightened my long black hair, got my ipod and bag, then went downstairs. "Sweety, why are you wearing a hoodie?" my mom asks. "Because I can and I'm cold" I answer. "Oh all right. Do you want some pancakes?" I already knew she was going to ask me that but just ignored it. "No, I'm good... I'm going to be late for school and Shelby just pulled in the driveway" I said. "Okay, have a nice first day of school! I LOVE YOU!" she yelled as I walked out the door. I hop into Shelby's jeep and closed the door. "Hey" Shelby said. "Mornin" I said back.

It was a silent drive, well besides the fact that Shelby had her radio on. We got to the school and Shelby parked her car then I got out and shut the door. We went inside and got our schedules. "Look! We have 3 classes together! Second, forth, and sixth period!" Shelby said excitedly. "Cool" I said trying to sound enthusiastic. I went to fist period and got a seat in the back. Adrielle stared at me like always with that evil stair of hers. Adrielle is both mine' Shelby's' and Abe's arch enemy. She is popular, rich, stuck up, and worst of all... dates my crush. Sam. Sam has been my crush since the first grade. Then Adrielle had to be so pretty in the tenth grade and steel him from me.

Adrielle's thoughts of me weren't pleasant. The teacher soon came in and I put up my ipod. "Good morning students! My name is Michael but you can call me Mr. Mike." Our teacher said. At this point I could hear everyone's thoughts. My head hurt really bad so I tried to block them out. It was the same all day. Learn who the teacher was, saying what happened over the summer, and knowing what we will be doing for the year. But then something happened. The thing with our school is we don't get many new people. Like 99% of the people at this school have been here since kindergarten. The strange thing is that in fifth period a new kid came in late and then our teacher Mrs. Blanks told us that this was an exchange student from Texas and will be coming to our small school down here in Mississippi.

His name was Jake. He had black flippy hair that was in his face, musculen body, aqua blue gorgeous eyes, and wore a black leather jacket. The odd thing is that not only did he have to sit by me but I couldn't read his thoughts. I had also learned that I could tell what people were feeling and I couldn't see what Jake was felling either. It was strange and I swear I think he looked at me. "Hi" I said. No reply. "So you're new around here." Still no reply. "My name is Elizabeth but everyone calls me Liz" I said. He smiled, it wasn't really a smile it was more of a smirk. "I'm Jake." he said in a quiet voice. I smiled.
