Just like last year I dreaded homecoming week, but this year for different reasons. Let's just go through the list of reasons why.
One, Taylor and I's friendship was dying faster than I thought. Not only was she hanging around with Lauren, she was also acting really shady. Which made me wonder? Was she exposing the things Brooke and I entrusted her with. I knew the real Taylor and doing that sounded out of her character, but many things these days she was doing were out of her character.
Two, as a cheerleader we planned homecoming. From the themes of the week to the dance. Luckily we spilt into two groups and were getting things down on a steady track. On top of that I didn't even know if I was going.
Three, Chase. Ever since his mom appeared at my door he's been ignoring me to the highest degree. In the halls he'd look ahead and in any class we have together he'd put multiple of people between us. He couldn't even glance my way and even if he did he'd only blankly stare at me or glare. He had the right to hate me, but what would you do if your crushes mom showed up at your house?
Life honestly sucked at this point, but it wasn't as bad as it was last year. Yet again though this year I'll be in my room homecoming night binge watching some show and moping in my sorrow.
Thinking about how much of a sucky night I was going to have distracted me from my best friend standing in my room doorway crying. Once our eyes met I immediately rose from my bed and engulfed Brooke into my arms. I didn't know exactly what was wrong, but if you knew Brooke you knew it took a lot for her to shed a single tear. We both didn't say a word we just sat on my bedroom floor and held each other.

— homecoming game —

I keep the big fake smile on my face as I
held the highest point of the football players run through poster. I was at the top of the pyramid and honestly it was the worst day to put me at the top. All I wanted to do was break down and cry right now, but I couldn't. It would be pointless to shed a tear over a guy who didn't give a damn about my feelings.

— before the game —

So this week has been horrible, but also awkward. All I wanted was to apologize to Chase, but he'd block me at every chance. Other than getting to dress up in funky costumes each day of the week, the only form of pleasure I was going to get was to know Chase and I were on good terms.
My opportunity finally came when I was dropping something off at Coach Hon's office. Chase sat alone, probably waiting on the coach. Not going to lie I wanted so bad just to walk to him and hug him, but I knew I'd get a clear rejection.

"Hey."

I said softly getting his attention. He didn't reply back which made me shift a little. His gaze on me was intense.

"Uh I know I'm the last person you want to talk to right now, but could you just listen for a minute?"

Again I was met with silence. So I just ran my mouth.

"Chase I did not know your mom would  come to my house. I honestly had no knowledge of her being there. I know you're mad, but you have to understand I did what I thought was right. You may disagree, but she's your mom, you don't want to loose her. Trust me."

By the end of my whole little speech my breath was sort of ragged and Chase was standing now. Again he didn't say anything he only brushed past me with his shoulder pads accidentally hitting my shoulder roughly. But he didn't fully walk away without saying,

"Maybe you should start worry about your own relationship with your mom."

And like that he was gone.

— now —

The game was in fully swing now,
the rival team was up ahead at the moment and I was screaming cheers. The cheers and movements we were doing made my shoulder hurt which only reminded me of how much Chase hated me. Could you blame him? I'd hate me too.
At the moment the crowd was going wild and that distracted me from my self pity. It was Chase, he was making a run for the end zone and the clock was running on seconds. 3...2...1 the whistle blew and everyone in the stands flooded the field. Chase made it the point just in time and we won. I couldn't help but jump up a little, but my celebration quickly ended.
Chase grabbed a ball and a bouquet of flowers walking right over to Lauren. I knew what he did, he just asked her to homecoming and right in front of my face. That hurt, but don't I deserve it? I could feel my heart staring to pound at a ridiculously fast speed and my breathing was cutting short. Why was this hurting so bad?

"Bre? Babe!?"

Brooke all of a sudden appeared in front of me. She took a hold of my shoulders and shook me a little. Her face showed a clear sign of worry, so she followed my gaze and figured it out.

"That son of a b*tch. He got me f*cked up. Hold on I'll be right back."

"No!"

I grabbed for her arm as she turned her heel towards Chase. I weakly smiled at her.

"It's okay."

Was all I said and within minutes I was caged in Brooke's arms walking away from the field.
