The minute I stepped through the front door of my house I did a little happy dance. It was Friday and I didn't have to see Taylor, Luke, nor Lauren for a whole two days. Also I didn't have to see Brooke and Marco swap spit. I was happy she found a guy, but I felt she was going too fast with him. Like Marco has already met Brooke's parents, I mean I didn't meet them until we were friends for like five months!
"Bre?"
I looked to the right of me and noticed my mom standing up from the couch. Behind her stood a Caucasian woman, who was without a doubt Chase's mom. You could just tell by looking at the woman, but you could also tell she'd been through hell and back. Don't get me wrong her outfit was on point and her hair was slayed to the gods, but her eyes told a different story.
"U-uh Hi. I'm Jane Bradford and I need your help."
She looked at me with pleading eyes and her voice shook while she spoke. This was heartbreaking and I didn't know what to say. Hell I didn't know is she liked me or not according to what Chase told me.
"Would you like something to eat or drink? I'm sure we've got something."
"Thank you dear, but no thanks your mom has already offered."
She let out a small chuckle and nervously played with her fingers. I know I was avoiding her question, but I know if I gave her Chase's address he'd be mad at me for eternity. So I did the only thing I could.
Pulling out my phone I dialed Chase's number and wanted two rings before he picked up."Hey Chase, could you come over? With Braxton?"
"Yeah sure give me 10 minutes."
And just like that the called was ended just as quick as it was made. Turning back to Mrs. Jane who now looked at me with much more positive eyes I spoke,
"They'll be here shortly."
I gathered my things and went up to me room. I hurriedly grabbed my laptop and FaceTimed Brooke. It took two calls before she answered with an annoyed look on her face, but I didn't care.
"Chase's mom is downstairs in my living room."
After saying that Brooke's whole demeanor changed. Her eyes widened and her jaw hung low.
"You lyin! Does Chase know?"
"He's about to when he gets here."
"Girl you about to have Family Feud broadcast live in your living room."
She was right. A war was about to unleash in my living room when Chase arrived. Did I do the right thing? It honestly wasn't my place to make Chase and his mother talk to each other. He's probably going to be mad at me, but I don't want him to end up like how my mother and I are. I can tell his mother is miserable without him and even though he doesn't show it he is too.
"Brooke he's going to hate me."
"No he's not. What's so bad about speaking to his mom? After all she showed up at you door."
That was true, but then again I don't want Chase to feel like I've set a trap for him to walk into.
"Look girl jut keep calm and see how it goes. If homeboy say something slick call me up and we jumpin his a**."
I let out a small giggle. That's what I needed, a friend to calm me down and Brooke did exactly that. She even made me laugh too. I looked at the clock and in about five minutes Chase would be knocking at my door.
"Alright I guess. I talk to you later when it's all over."
"You better! I want all the tea."
I laughed saying goodbye to Brooke, then sat on my bed waiting for the best or the worst to come.
— 10 minutes later —
When the doorbell rung my heart stopped and sped up in the one second I took to get up from my bed. Downstairs my mom and Mrs. Jane were standing in the living room looking at the door. Going over to the door I looked over at Mrs. Jane who had a hand over her chest and a form a fear in her eyes. Opening the door I was greeted by a very hyper Braxton and smiling Chase.
"Hey beautiful."
"Hey you two. Come on in."
I tried to sound as normal as possible. Letting the two of them in I closed the door and from behind me I could hear Braxton let out a squeal for his mother. Turning around I saw the little boy take off in a sprint towards his mother. Jane caught Braxton in her arms and hugged the boy close to her chest. Chase on the other hand was looking at me with a confused expression. I couldn't look at him I only could look down at my sock covered feet.
"Hi Chase. It's good to see you're doing well."
Mrs. Jane threw a smile her son's way, but was only met by the cold glare on Chase's face. I knew if he opened his mouth to say a word it wouldn't be nice at all.
"Bre let's leave Jane and her boys to speak. Nice sort of meeting you Chase."
My spoke up signaling me to leave the room. On my way out of the room I whispered a sorry to Chase, but he didn't even give me a glance. My mom and I went into the kitchen, where I went straight to the fridge to find something to calm my nerves. Something legal.
"I don't want you seeing that boy."
The way I stood up so quick from bending down, I could've broke my back. I did a from 360 with my body to try and find who my mother was talking to. I hope she was talking to the basket of banana's next to her cause she was going bananas.
"Who?"
Yeah my a** an owl now.
"Breanna you don't need to be messing around with a guy like Chase, especially since people like us don't clash too well with people like him."
"Define people like him, you mean white. If so might I remind you your farther is of the Caucasian race."
"Bre that not what I'm saying-"
"Then what are you saying? Because I'm not going to stop liking him over the fact that he's of a different race and why should I listen to you?"
"I am your mother and-"
"Oh so you wanna claim that title again, because I pretty sure after Dad died you chose your work over me. Nah you your works mother not mine."
I close the fridge shut and walked out the kitchen. She didn't care about me when I was down, so why she gotta care when I'm up? I've gone this long without her, I don't see a need for her anymore.
