"What are you doing?" I laugh as Shah Rukh stumbles over his own feet. I clasp his arm in mine and pull him close to my side to try and keep him upright.
"I don't really get why we needed the blindfold," Shah Rukh grumbles as I tug him further to his surprise. He thought I had totally forgotten the fact he said he would prove his love for me but I hadn't... I was just biding my time for the right moment and here it is. I stop abruptly as Shah Rukh shuffles forward before being retracted back by my arm. He grumbles again and I kiss his cheek watching as those perfect dimples sink into his cheek around his smile.
"Do you love me?" I ask smiling cheekily as I step in front of Shah Rukh taking his hands in mine.
"More than anyone," he replies immediately realising what I'm quoting.
"Do you trust me?" I whisper placing my forehead on his.
"More than I trust myself," Shah Rukh grins. I place my fingers on the bow at the back of the blindfold and tug at the fabric feeling it loosen before falling away from Shah Rukh's eyes. He blinks adjusting to the light as I step back. Shah Rukh glances around at his surroundings his eyebrows furrowed before he realises where we are.
"You said you'd prove your love to me," I mumble knowing it sounds stupid-I know Shah Rukh loves me too much for his own good-"and this is how I want you to prove it." I remove the yellow ribbon from my back pocket and dangle it in front of Shah Rukh biting my bottom lip unsure of whether he'll agree or disagree to my proposal. I had always told Shah Rukh I wanted to tie a ribbon around an eternity tree so that in my next lives I'll always love him. Shah Rukh had originally sniggered at that remark because he believes when we die we go to heaven or hell so it was hard for him to understand my point of view. When I had brought him round to my way of thinking he said he'd think about tying a ribbon but I've done a lot of things for him, like celebrated Eid and been to a mosque, that I thought it was time for him to do something for me.
"You take hamesha very seriously," he smiles reaching out his hand for the ribbon. I pull it away from his grasp and smile back.
"We tie it together," I instruct turning and walking towards the eternity tree. I can sense Shah Rukh behind me as he presses his chest against my back and loops his arms around me resting his hands on mine. I place the ribbon around a branch and begin to tie it in a bow feeling Shah Rukh's fingers tickling mine as he attempts to help. When we're done he kisses my cheek making me blush.
"Hamesha hamesha," I mumble feeling Shah Rukh smiling into my neck.
"Hamesha hamesha," he tickles my neck with his breath. He lets go of me and places his hand in mine as we walk back to the car. I can't help but smile at the fact I'll love Shah Rukh not just in this life but in all my other lives to come. Without warning the skies open and rain is bucketed down onto us. I look up laughing trying to run for cover feeling Shah Rukh pull me back a cheeky smile spreading over his lips.
"Tum paagal ho," I giggle as he pulls me into a waltz hold and I smile. So I've quoted Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and now Shah Rukh is acting out Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
"Nahin not crazy just in love," he whispers as I rest my cheek on his chest and we begin to shuffle around in the undergrowth, the rain drumming a tune on the leaves of the trees around us. Love is such a funny thing!
