Katy's POV
"Katy!"
I heard Jordan calling my name late afternoon. I sat up from the couch where I had been asleep. "In the den," I replied, my voice thick with sleep.
He tromped into the den, his Georgia boots loud on the hardwood floors. "What are you doing?"
"Oh, nothing," I said. " I fell asleep I guess while I was studying." I lifted the textbook off of my lap and held it up for him to see. I gave him a once-over, notcing how dirty he was.
"Oh," he said with a nod.
"You're a mess," I stated.
"Thanks, Captain Obvious," Jordan said, laughing.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," I responded while rolling my eyes. "You should go take a shower. What time is it right now?"
"It's almost six," he said. "If it's okay with you, I invited some friends over tonight. They're gonna come about seven."
"Friends? Who?" I asked.
"Their names are Caleb and Layton. Brother and sister. They just got back from Africa. I should've called you. Sorry. I just didn't think about it," Jordan said.
I blinked, trying to wake my mind up enough to make sense of what was happening. "So there's people coming over? Do I need to cook?"
Jordan gave me an apologetic look. "If you don't mind, then that would be great."
I stood up. "Okay. Just let me get dressed real quick and I'll throw something together. Is there anything particular you want?"
"How about that chicken stuff you made that one time?" he said, a hopeful glint in his eyes.
I laughed. "Which chicken stuff? I cook with chicken all the time," I said. "So you could be basically asking for anything."
"You know the one with that weird named dressing and the rice," he prompted.
"Oh, that," I said, understanding what he wanted. "Yeah, I think I have some chicken breasts in the freezer. I'll do that."
"Awesome!" he said. "So, hurry so I can take a shower."
"Demanding tonight, aren't we, honey?" I teased playfully. I then froze, realizing I had used a term of endearment for the man I cared about--maybe even loved--but knew would never been mine in any way but the one way I had him at that moment.
Jordan didn't flinch though. He picked up the banter right where I had left off. "Well, muffin, if you hadn't been being a bum and sleeping the day away, I wouldn't have anything to demand from you 'cause you would've already had it done."
