School the following day was interesting. the school was discussing the new, and very sad,  'RealMe' cover. They wondered what had caused such a sad song to be sung...

It was awkward seeing Shawn. Rose, Jeremy and I avoided Shawn, or was Shawn avoiding us? Whatever was happening it seem like it was mutual. I also wasn't talking very much to Jeremy and Rose even though I sat with them during breaks. I was dreading going to music and having to see Shawn. But, as if time decided to hate me, music came around quick.

I arrived early and started to head over to the keyboards. "Oh! Ellie! I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go spend your time preparing for your drum lesson this period for doing me a favour," Miss Carlton stands up from behind her desk.

"Sure," I sigh, grateful as this means I am in a room all by myself for the next hour.

"I've had a lot of the girls come in during the day asking for me to play this song that someone did a cover of last night. My Immortal?" She goes over to the grand piano. "And I know you're advanced with reading music, so I thought it would be nice for you to play it to give the others an idea of how it should sound."

"Okay, but I won't sing."

"I realise that much. Only do what you're comfortable with. Here is the music," she hands me the sheet music.

"I actually already know the song," I say, feeling rather smug inside.

"Even better!" Miss Carton claps. "Students should be arriving soon. Start whenever you feel like it."

Once again, I play the music to the song I sang last night. It's funny how much I have an influence on my classmates- I get them to bully me by just being me and I get them to love me and my music from just being me as well. They just see me as two different people.

As the students enter, they recognise the song as being the one RealMe uploaded last night. Then, they see it's me playing it and try to look uninterested. The song comes to an end and Miss Carlton makes the class clap for me. I stand up and walk to the drum room at the back of the class, my eyes diverted to the ground.

Alone at last. Today just seemed to be me always with someone either near me, with me trying to get me to talk (Jeremy and Rose), or someone purposefully trying to get my attention to annoy me (Jess' friends). Now that I am properly alone for the first time today I can finally let myself go a little.

And what better way when you have a drum kit right in front of you.

I take my seat behind the drums. Drums are a very different from the instrument from the piano obviously. But in terms of how I see it, a piano lets me slowly release my emotions. Drums let me beat the living shit out of them. I start playing a light beat which eventually turns into the song Hot For Teacher, one of the more advanced songs I knew. I look up at the window briefly to see I had caught the attention of some of the other students who scowled at me. It's a shame none of them had chosen to play the drums like I had when we were offered. I smirk and continue to play them louder. Something about playing the drums makes me a lot more confident.

"Hey!" Someone yells and I look up to see Shawn had entered the room. Of course, Miss Carlton would have let him interrupt my lesson. She knows how close we are. I nod at him and continue playing, a little quieter now. "Can we talk?!"

"Practising!" I call back.

"Please?!" He sits on the stool in the corner. I sigh, knowing that Shawn wouldn't leave until he got his way.

"Fine," I stop the beat I was playing and start spinning the sticks in my hands. "But make it quick. I'm busy if you couldn't tell."

"I'm really sorry about last night."

"Okay, sweet. Can you go now?"

"Woah, no way! I'm not going until my best friend isn't mad at me."

"That's a shame."

"Come on, you can't stay mad at this face!" Shawn pouts and I hold my breath. He's right, I can't. I want to talk and laugh with him as we usually do. But I can't stop seeing him and Jess in our sacred place of friendship. I let out the breath I was holding.

"Actually, I can. You did break a rule of the Awesome Foursome," I cringe at the name we gave our friendship group so many years ago.

"It's my treehouse, though."

"And if it were in Jeremy's yard and we caught him making out with some chick up there you'd be pissed as well. Especially considering we made the rules as a group and agreed to them..."

"Okay, if it means that much to you, it won't happen again."

"Not just me. Rose and Jeremy as well."

"You're right. I'm sorry. I'll go say sorry to them as well."

"Thanks. Now if you don't mind." I start playing the drums again as Shawn leaves the room.
