The "Shawn free" month was just about over. I was excited to have him back, even if that meant only seeing him around school and in class and not hanging out with him. It was also hard to work on our music project with him away. He had sent me a few more lines which he had thought of and I had pieced them together to make the first tiny bit. Looking down at my songbook, I read what we have for The Weight so far.

I want to go back
Forget that it's over
Painted in black
When you left me alone

It made me happy that the first line that I had come up with had inspired Shawn to write the next two lines. A small smile creeps onto my lips as I look at my scrawled writing. At least Shawn and I have this together. Nothing can take this away from me.

The bell goes signalling the end of the day. I leave class late the smile still on my face. The halls were nearly empty, allowing me to feel safe walking down them. Rounding the corner, I immediately jump back around and hide.

Jeremy and Jess were talking to each other.

"Don't. Say. A. Word." She threatens.

"I'm not an idiot," he says calmly. Sadly, that was all of the conversation I was able to hear. Her high heel shoes clip against the floor, growing fainter in the distance. I go around the corner and walk over to Jeremy

"What the hell was that?" I demand.

"Oh, hey Ellie," he says, a look of panic in his eye.

"Why were you talking to her? I didn't think we were her biggest fans."

"Well, I mean, I am irresistible," he smirks at me.

"Oh my god she's cheating on Shawn with you!" I yell.

"Geez! Calm down, crazy!" He places his hands on my shoulders. "Do you really think I'd do that to Shawn? He's my best mate."

I shrug his hands off of me, annoyed at him and myself. "Then what was the 'don't say a word' about then?" I cross my arms.

"If I told you then I'd get in trouble, wouldn't I?"

"Oh for fuck sakes. Who am I going to tell? The only people I talk to is you and Rose. Music is all I talk about to Shawn," I stare at him pointedly.

"Urg, it really no big deal. Jess wants to get Shawn a surprise for when he gets back tomorrow. There!" He throws his hands in the air. "Now, can we go home and pretend you didn't hear a thing?"

"Fine," I sigh, walking out of school with him. "Sorry for thinking you'd do that to Shawn."

"That's okay. I am that sort of person."

"Jeremy..."

"No, really. If I wasn't you wouldn't have thought that. But it's okay. Being a dick is a part of my image," he lightly punches my arm as we turn onto our street.

"You know you don't have to put on that image," I turn to look at him when we reach our houses.

"It's too late for me now. Besides, this is me. I've embraced this lifestyle," he gives me a hug. "But thanks for looking out for me."

"That's all right."

"See you tomorrow," he walks off into his house.

"Bye," I go inside my own home, thinking of the end of today's events.
