"Hey," Shawn smiles and sits in the chair next to me.

"Early to class, that's new," I look at him questioningly, readjusting my fallen glasses.

"I thought you wanted to hang out more often?" He throws his arm around me. "And I also wanted to make sure you were still going to be my partner for the big assignment."

"That's being assigned today?"

"Yup! I really want to know what it is. And whatever it is, we are going to do great because you and I always get top grades in music."

"Mainly because of me, though," I smirk

"I gotta agree with you there," Shawn says before turning over to talk to others who had entered the class.

"Quiet, class!" Miss Carlton walks in and begins the lesson immediately. "Now, today I will be giving you information about the assignment which, along with your exam, will determine whether or not you pass this year's music class." The class buzzes with excitement. "Before I say anything more, I'm presuming you all have your chosen partners?"

Shawn and I look at each other and nod. We have always been partners when it came to music assignments. This always led to me receiving some backlash from the girls in my class. I can't help but smile slyly at them as they glare at the two of us. "I'm so keen for this assignment," I whisper.

"Before summer, you must write the lyrics and music for your own original song with the topic that I give you," Miss Carlton gives the class a moment to excitedly chatter. Shawn and I bump fist. We definitely won't have a problem with this assignment. "Now, some of you will find this easier than others," she says, giving the two of us a knowing look. "But, be aware, you will be marked on creativity and originality along with the process involved with creating the song. You will have to perform it in front of the class as well, no exceptions." Miss Carlton moves from behind her desk and starts wandering around the room. "Please go stand with your partner so I may give you your topic."

"Come on, Ellie," Shawn leads me over to stand separately from the rest of the class.

"Ah, it shouldn't be much of a surprise that you two are working together," Miss Carlton smiles. "Your topic is... The Weight."
