Christmas seemed to go by quick and we were back at school once again. Things were back as they were. Shawn was with Jess, but Jeremy and Rose made an effort to see me at lunch every so often. The bullying continued.

I stare at my notebook Jeremy got me, The Weight written at the top. The only line I had managed to write was 'I want to go back'. Before I even got around to thinking of the second line, Shawn comes running down the hall, stopping at my locker where I was sat on the ground. "Ellie!"

"Yes?" I look up at him questioningly.

"Are you free after school?"

"Always am."

"Can you come over to mine? I need to show you this new song I wrote."

"How on earth have you already written a new song? I've only come up with one line for the music project," i throw my hands up in exasperation.

"Can I hear it?" Shawn sits next to me.

"No, but you can read it," I hand the notebook to him.

"I want to go back," he speaks the line. "I like. I can see this going somewhere."

"Thanks," I smile at him and he smiles back.

"But, be at my place after school. Got it?"

"Won't I see you in music?"

"Nope. I have a meeting with my manager, remember?"

"You never told me..."

"Oh, oops! Sorry!" He stands up and pats my head. I swat his hand away in fake annoyance. "See you later," Shawn says before running off down the hall again.

"Bye," I mumble.

The day went by slowly and I was excited to be hanging out with Shawn after school. It had been so long since he had invited me over. I nearly ran out of the music room when the bell went, signalling the end of the day. The walk home was peaceful, Rose's pink jumper she gave me keeping me warm from the slightly chilly weather. I walked right pass my house to Shawn's. "Hey, Ellie," Shawn greets me as he opens the door.

"Hey," I enter, taking off my shoes.

"Want some crisps?" Shawn says walking into the kitchen. "I haven't eaten all day and it seems we only have endless amounts of crisps here."

"Sure," I laugh.

"Okay, you can go up to my room. I'll be up in a minute," he says and I turn towards the stairs.

It had been a while since I had seen Shawn's room. In the few months he had been dating Jessica, his room had changed. His bed was no longer pushed up against the wall and was more central. It was also tidier. His books were neatly placed in the shelf and his clothes all neatly put away. I decide to sit down on the edge of his bed, looking out his window and directly into mine.

"Here are the crisps!" Shawn walks through the door and I jump up in fright.

"Geez Shawn, a warning would have been nice," I say sarcastically, sitting back down.

"Sorry," he hands me the chips.

"So," I look around his room. "This is different."

"Yeah. Jess thinks this suits the room better."

"Oh," I look away sheepishly. We sit in silence, as we seem to often do. "Are you going to show me the song?"

"Yes!" Shawn goes and grabs his guitar and sits on the chair in the corner of his room. I place the bowl of crisps down and bring my legs up to my chest. "I wanted you to hear this song first, before anyone else," he says, checking that his guitar is in tune. Picking the strings, he starts the song.

"I promise that one day I'll be around
I'll keep you safe
I'll keep you sound.

Right now it's pretty crazy
And I don't know how to stop or slow it down.

Hey
I know there are some things we need to talk about
And I can't stay
Just let me hold you for a little longer now.

Take a piece of my heart
And make it all your own
So when we are apart
You'll never be alone
You'll never be alone.

You'll never be alone
When you miss me close your eyes
I may be far but never gone
When you fall asleep tonight
Just remember that we lay under the same stars.

And hey
I know there are some things we need to talk about
And I can't stay
Just let me hold you for a little longer now.

And take a piece of my heart
And make it all your own
So when we are apart
You'll never be alone.

You'll never be alone
You'll never be alone
You'll never be alone
You'll never be alone
You'll never be alone.

And take a piece of my heart
And make it all your own
So when we are apart
Never be alone.
You'll never be alone."

Shawn finishes singing and I wipe away a stray tear. The song really struck my heart "Oh Shawn, I-"

"Do you like it?" He interrupts.

"I love it!" I smile and Shawn come over to hug me.

"I'm so glad you do! Do you have any feedback?"

"No, it was so unbelievably beautiful! I-"

"Yes!" Shawn cheers, interrupts again. "I can't wait to play it for Jess!" My smile falls.

"But you're always with her?" I frown. "She literally will never be alone."

"That was another thing I've been meaning to tell you," Shawn looks away. "I'm going to be away for a month."

"What?" I manage to say.

"My management wants me to go to America for a month. Do some press related stuff, write some songs."

"Oh," I say. I was still shook with the brief feeling of believing Shawn might have written a song for me. It was nice to think that briefly I wasn't alone. "When do you leave?"

"End of the week."

"Well, I hope you have a good time," I force a smile.

"I'll bring you back a souvenir," he winks. "Hey, Ellie?"

"Yeah?" I look at him,

"Thanks."
