What I am sure about though on the other hand is that I'm going to get my ass chewed off once we get to the institute. I probably deserve to get my ass chewed off.

I hear Jace slam the Institute doors furiously behind me. I flinch at the sound. What's strange is that he hasn't spoken to me once, probably saving it all for later I presume. I hear Jace's footfalls behind me. Not necessarily stomping, but not walking peacefully either. Not quite sure what to call this.

We enter the library where everyone else is waiting for us. I hear the click of the door as it latches into the strike jamb. Everyone else is sitting down while Maryse is standing before the fireplace, staring into it as if waiting for something. Perhaps she just sent a fire message? I can't be too sure. Alec and Isabelle look and me intensely. It's not until after a moment or two that I see Magnus standing in a spot with low light by Alec. If Magnus is here then what's going on? Besides me nearly getting killed of course, but that's besides the point.

"Please, sit down Clary," Maryse tells me, her back still facing me.

But I'm like a statue, I'm frozen in place, unable to move even if I wanted to. She finally turns and faces me, a piece of paper in her hands.

"I distinctively told you to stay here and you outright disobeyed me," Maryse says, starting the conversation, "you could've died.... or by the information in this letter you could've been taken."

"What do you mean by "taken"?" Jace beats everyone to the question, clearly taken aback from this new information.

Maryse pauses for a few seconds, probably analyzing how she would say what she was going to say. She clears her voice, "someone is after Clary. For what she can do...." It seemed that she was going to say something else but cut herself short.

"What do you mean?" This time it was Izzy who asked it first.

"She can create new runes," Maryse says after what seemed that she was holding her breath.

Silence fills the room. It's so silent if feels like it should be ear shattering. I look down at my hands and twiddle with my thumbs. Before I can stop myself I blurt out, "I can defend myself."

All eyes turn to me. I don't look at them or their intense stares, but instead look at a high window that's close to the towering ceiling.

"Clary, how can you defend yourself when you don't really know how?" Izzy asks me softly.

"I-," I stop and take a deep breath. Now I'm wondering what's going to happen once I tell them this? How will they react? "I remember everything," I say slowly.

Once again more silence. I wish there was some sort of noise, anything to help me not to think. My eyes flicker around the room, resting on everyone for a least a few seconds.

"This silence is killing me," Magnus says, making blue fire dance around in his palm, clearly losing interest in whatever this conversation was meant to be.

Someone was about to say something, I'm not sure who but I flee the room before anyone could say anything. I keep walking, my mind finally blank of everything. Before I couldn't do anything but think, and now all of my thoughts have fled. I hear my name getting called from behind me, but I ignore it. I block out everything. I burst out of the Institute, gulping in much needed air. The air is cool and brisk, just what I need. Air to help me think. I put my back against one of the outside walls, letting it's coldness seep through my shirt and touch my back. My soul was becoming too warm anyway. I hear a sound come from my right and I freeze. I slowly turn my head to the right and see nothing.

Voices continue to call my name from inside of the Institute, but I ignore them one more time. I slowly push myself away from the wall and back away from the sound. The evening sunlight barely has that area lit, so now I'm not even quite sure what exactly I am searching for. My back collides with something metal, and something that hurts. I turn my head just enough to see what I backed into, but still have my eyes on where the sound had come from. I had backed myself into the front gate. I curse under my breath. I side step slowly, my left hand behind me searching for the front gate.

The first voice I can distinguish coming from the Institute is Jace's, but by his voice it seems he is still too far away to do anything. I see a shadow coming towards me through the darkness. I squint my eyes a little so I can try to see who... or what it is.

"Who are you?" I ask in a small voice.

It lurches towards me and grabs me as I scream. Immediately my vision goes dark.
