Chapter 2

Graces' POV:

As I walked down the abandoned corridors, I carefully peered into a couple of the adjacent classrooms. One of them was my German class and from where I was, I could see Alisons' chocolate brown hair bobbing up and down from her textbook and the whiteboard. Ali will always remain the quizzical one. One seat in front of her was Lauren who was rocking on her chair as if she didn't have a care in the world. In the classroom opposite, the students were being taught French. Caitlin was in there. I pulled my phone out of my *blazer and checked the time. Poop, I'm going to be late to see the *head teacher. I put my phone back in my blazer pocket and 'hastened' down the corridor. I can't get in any trouble since I wasn't technically running. As I turned the final corner, I realised I had made it to Mr. Johnson's office with a minute to spare. I panted for a second and fixed my uniform before entering. On my arrival, two heads snapped up to my gaze to greet me. One, was the schools head teacher Mr Johnson and the other was head boy, Caleb Sinclair. They both smiled. Although, Caleb's was more of a smirk than an actual smile.

"Thank you for joining us, Grace." Mr Johnson gestured at one of the leather armchairs that were placed in fron of his desk for me to sit down on. When I was comfortably seated, Mr J (I'm now going to call him that since his name is a mouthful) brought up the topic of discussion.

"I want one of you to enter the talent exchange." Caleb and I looked between ourselves in disbelief.

"Sir? I don't quite understand what you're trying to get at." Caleb asked, he was suddenly sitting stiffly upright.

"Well, I presume you know what the Talent Exchange is. You see, all thr head teachers from Britain are participating and our school became quite a laughing stock in the last meeting. I thought the best way to remove all the doubts and show that the students are talented." Mr J answered. So, he called us here just to convince us to join a cause so he would no longer look be the laughing stock of the head teachers meeting. Wow, conceited much?

"I'm sorry, sir. But I can't do this, *football season has just started and I want to be here for the team. However, I'm sure Grace has nothing better to do since Netball season is over." Caleb gave me that sly smirk once more.

"Watch it, Sinclair," I hissed under my breath so only he could hear it. Caleb only wanted me out of the way so it would be mainly him with that much power over the other students.

"I'll do it, Sir. I was going to do it anyway as a favour to a friend and now I have permission to. But, the *GCSE's..." I trailed off.

"The program only lasts until April so you'll be back in time to do your GCSE's in May." I nodded obediently. "Thank you for your time Grace. Now if you don't mind, I'd like a word with Caleb alone." I nodded.

"Oh, right now. Yeah, ok, bye." I rushed out of my seat and left the office shutting the door behind me. The last thing I saw was Caleb wink before he was shut off by the door. I can't wait till I tell the girls...

"Really? Just like that, he's letting you go?" Caitlin asked. It was currently lunch time and we were eating outside in one of the *quads. It was a little breezy but the sun was out so we took this rare opportunity as a blessing put on England. I was sitting on top of one of the park benches with the tables... Just to be clear, I was sitting on the table. This quad mainly consisted of year 10s and 11s since we needed to get away from all of the noise to study for our GCSEs. For Caitlin, Lauren, Alison and I, coming to the quad was a thing we did unless it was out of bounds, cold or wet.

"So, now we need a mentor. I want someone who's cool and won't give us a bed time." Lauren mocked. Guess, the librarian was out of the question then.
