Chapter 5
Grace's POV:
Finally, the weekend came. However, don't think that just because you could put your feet up and sit on your sofa like a potato, that I could do the same. Unfortunately, and it pains me to say this, I had to go to my Grandmothers house and play volunteer maid; that's not as fun as it sounds and I'm not paid.
"Grace, can you go get me a roll of kitchen tissues, please?" My grandmother yelled from downstairs. She was lucky that I was halfway up the stairs so it wasn't as much effort. But I still needed to pee, so the roll of tissues would have to wait. After relieving myself, I went into the store room which had all the house products inside.
"BOO!!" I jumped about 20 ft and screamed.
"AAAGGHHH! What the fuck, Lee?!" I shouted at my cousin who was hiding in the shadows.
"I dunno, bored I guess. You're so much fun to scare and annoy." He burst out laughing again.
"You're an ass. Goodbye." And just like that, I left Lee all by himself to deal with the dust and spider webs. I took the kitchen roll into the dining room where everyone sat with food in front of them. From one of the serving plates, I plucked a chocolate chip cookie and went into the living room while munching on it. My youngest aunt was there with her daughter in her lap.
"Hey. What's on?" I asked sitting down beside her on the large blue sofa.
"Nothing much. Just watching the episode of 2 Broke Girls I recorded." Ooh, I loved that show! Max was definitely my favourite- she was so mean to the little dude called Hans.
"Is this the episode where she goes to pastry school?" My aunt nodded in return and refocused her eyes on the TV. As the episode progressed, I realised that Max and Caroline reminded me of certain individuals... Alison and Lauren. Ali being Max, blunt and teasing and Lauren being Caroline, wants to look her best and flirty. Kayla, my four month all cousin. burst out giggling over something Max said. I wonder how much of that she actually understands? All of a sudden, a vibrating from the back pocket of my jeans caught my attention. I pulled my phone out and checked it.
1 miss call from Lauren
"Huh? Since when does Lauren call me?" My aunt shushed me and I left the room not before giving her the middle finger which she happily returned. From my contacts, I clicked Laurens icon and waited for the girl to pick up.
"Hello, Grace?" Her voice said whispering.
"No, it's Elmo from Sesame Street. Yes, it's me Lauren. Why are you whispering and why did you call before?" I said clambering up the stairs and entering the guest room of the house.
"I did something really bad and I thought you'd be able to help me fix it." She replied timidly. That was me, Grace, the student who doubles as a therapist over the weekend. I sighed deeply and sat down on the lush king sized bed.
"Talk to me, what did you do?" I.braced myself for the bad news.
"I broke my mum's expensive China set." Lauren blurted out.
"Your lying to me. I can tell because whenevr you lie, your voice gets higher. It's always happened. Now tell me the truth." From the other side of the line, Lauren took a breath.
"Ok, but I really did break that China set. It was in Monday when I threw a cushion at Jack. Ok, here it goes but please don't think any less of me." I nodded stiffly and muttered the word fine.
"I kissed Tyler!" My face recoiled like someone had slapped me. Tyler was Georgia's current boyfriend and the longest relationship she had managed to keep; 3 months. As much as I hated her, Georgia didn't deserved to go out with guy who would kiss another girl.
