"now class, for this assignment you'll be working in pairs."

the chatter in the classroom, erupted quietly, as people signalled their friends to partner up.

she kept her head down as she usually did. most of the time in group work, she did all the work, or there was usually an uneven number, so she worked alone.

he had just switched into her class, finding a seat a few away from her own in the back.

~

the called pairs were either followed by a lucky cheer or a groan of disapproval.

"that leaves, samuel and (y/n)."

he smiled to himself.

she could feel the gazes burning into her that very moment.

he walked over to her desk, placing the desk beside her, right against her own.

pulling out his books he smiled at her.

"so, this project, where do you want to work on it?"

he engaged in conversation, she sat in silence.

"library... after school..."

she spoke softly, just loud enough for him to hear.

"um, i have practice. how about after?"

~

she finally looked up, his eyes meeting hers.

she nodded slowly.

they quietly did work, each assigning themselves to their own parts of the project.

he occasionally asked her questions, she would quietly answer.

the bell rung.

"i'll meet you in the library after my practice! see ya, (y/n)!"

"bye, samuel..."

she just had to be his partner.
