Chapter 015

    Wad stay at the stadium for a while to rest. He also want to savour the moment of victory in private. He worked so hard for this and he finally achieved something he can be proud of.

    Although Kongpope did not know it, his trust on him by passing the ball at the last second meant everything to Wad. Finally he can break free from the painful event from his high school days.

    Three years ago, Wad was a freshman class 10 on ABC high school, a school that known for their top basketball team. Wad joined the team because he likes the sport and want to try it since he was a kid. 

    Turn out, Wad was very talented since the beginning. He quickly learned and mastered all the basic skill and became the best player from the freshman members.

    The captain team, P'Mic take a liking to him as a gifted junior and gave him extra training to improved his skill every day. They also discussed a lot about basketball and school life. Wad was extremely grateful for having a senior and a friend like P'Mic. He was his idol.

    Soon the coach made him a reverse player on the team. Three months later he was in the team main five players out of 28 members.

    Then the team compete in Bangkok Cup, the most prestigious high school basketball competition. Their team played extremely well and manage to won round after round and able to reach the final.

    Wad became a sensational star.

    He played brilliantly and helping the team win. He was popular among the spectators, other teams and the sport journalists. He was a first year freshman that only play for several months and his skill equal to majority top ace players on the tournament. He even got interviewed few times and appeared on web sport news. They gave him a rave review and wrote that a new ace was born in Bangkok Cup.

    He was so happy at that time. Finally something wonderful happened in his life. 

   But it does not lasted long. In the final, shockingly his own team mates did not passed the ball to him even once. When the ball was on their hand, they will passed it to other players although he was the closest one and able to scores.

    They lost pretty badly in the final.

    The teammates did the same thing in other matches after Bangkok Cup and they kept losing. The coach finally had to placed him as reserve player so the team can win again.

    Still Wad hang on . He kept training every day with his teammates though they barely talked and played with him anymore. He still clung to the hope that all will be back to normal and they can played again as a team.

    His hope was crushed when he overheard a conversation between two senior players.

    It was all the captain P'Mic doing. Being the only ace player on the team before Wad joined in, he became very envy and bitter when Wad surpassed him in the Bangkok Cup. All everyone talking about was how great Wad was. He was supposed to be the star of the tournament and not the boy who know nothing about basketball few months before.

    P'Mic threatened all his teammates NOT TO passed any ball to Wad in the final and on any matches after . Even if it mean the team will lose. If they won't do what he said, he will told his father , the owner of the high school to failed his teammates grades.

    Afraid and intimidated, the players followed P'Mic order and made Wad cannot play basketball anymore on the court.

    After hearing the truth, with pale ashen face and his body shaking badly, Wad ran to an empty locker room and cry his heart out . After that , he vowed to himself to never cry and trusted anyone again. It hurt too much being betrayed by someone you thought was a good friend and a senior. He get through the rest of his high school days alone. True friendship only happened in novels and movies.

    Today meeting with P'Mic in the rest room made him remembered the ugly past and almost ruined the final match. *

    His coach and his teammates faith in him was what push him out of the slump at early of the game and motivated him to play much better. They trusted him with a crucial role even if his leg was not 100% fit.

    Kongpope could try to shoot the last ball himself. He don't know for sure if Wad will appeared by his side or not. But Kong believed in him and passed the ball to him at the last second.

    And they win as a team. All players did not cared a bit who became the ace, who became the star. Each player had their own roles and supports each other till the end.

    He was truly touched by his team. And also by P'Prem.

   He don't know what made him hug P'Prem earlier. He just want to show how much he appreciated P'Prem who trained him every day . He boost Wad's confidence that he still good at playing this sport.

    Usually after training they went to eat at cafetaria or at street vendor near university. P'Prem will asked about his day and told him to take a good rest . He felt comfortable around P'Prem now. Before, he only felt that way around his sister, Wen.

    Who would had thought he and P'Prem became a good senior and junior after terrible disaster start? He felt a burden had been lifted of his shoulder. He still had lot of issues to deal with. But at least now he know that he had friends that he can trust and depend on.

Notes 1: I wrote this chapter in a record time and I like this chapter a lot. We can glimpsed on Wad awful high school year and what made him distrust the seniors and had a hard time mingled with his friends.

Notes 2: So readers, have you predicted what happened to Wad during high school?

If yes, congrats! You had keen eye and good observation. On chapter 3, it said that Wad cannot trust his senior words and he had been burned before in high school. Chapter 9 said he started play basketball again after 2 years of absence.

From here we know, a senior in high school betrayed Wad and had related with basketball. On chapter 13, the clues was very clear when Wad meet his senior P'Mic who taunt him about the lost basketball match in final .

Conclusion: P'Mic is the senior who betray Wad in basketball team and they lost in a tournament final. P'Mic does not want Wad stole his popularity as ace of the basketball team. Such a horrible person indeed.
