At first, the villains were taken aback by her statement. However, they knew better.
"You are just joking with us again, are you not?" the puppet said with a gleam in his eye. Shelly giggled.
"Oh, her laugh," Slappy whispered to himself. "It is so...precious. Her jokes. The way her blond hair flows ever so smoothly behind her..."
"Uh, Slappy," Kai said, waving his hands - er, hooves - in front of the dreaming puppet. The Maker of Widows turned to the one-eyed dorito. "What is wrong with him?" he asked, pointing at Slappy.
Bill sighed. "He must be in 'La-La Land,'" he responded. The yellow pyramid then took both of Slappy's shoulders, turned him around so that they could meet face to face, and shook him really hard.
"Snap out of it!" Bill exclaimed.
"Yeah, Slappy! Snap out of it!" the Taker of Chi added.
No use. The puppet was still deep in his thoughts.
Bill had just about enough with this puppet. Seriously? A dummy? A stupid dummy causing so much mayhem? Slappy had no powers, and was only what? Three feet and three inches tall? Nope. Slappy was a just a helpless dummy.
A stupid dummy.
Anger was boiling inside Bill.
"You are just a dummy, you know that? You are just a stupid - stupid - dummy!" he shouted. Bill did not even realize what he was saying.
"You do not have any magical powers and you are so puny! Why do people listen to you? Why would people think that you are such a great threat? Why would any human - actually, anyone - be so terrified of you?!"
He paused, examining Slappy. Those big, brown eyes. That smile.
Just plain creepy!
The yellow dorito started to relax a little. He gently let go of Slappy's shoulders.
Yes. If you are wondering, Slappy is still in 'La-La Land.'
Bill sighed. "Well, you are scary. I will give you that. However, you are still---"
Before he could say more, he felt a hand wrapping itself around his arm.
A wooden hand.
"Slappy..." Kai whispered.
Slappy was standing up straight on the table, his eyebrows narrowed, his glassy eyes staring out at Bill and Kai.
The dorito and the Collector were suddenly in shock. However, it was not because of what Slappy was doing - or the fact that he was standing on the table all by himself!
His eyes.
Those were not Slappy's eyes.
His eyes were glassy, brown, and...puppet-like.
In place of his eyes were dark swirls. Purple and black swirls.
The swirls looked as though as they were filled with something.
Evil?
Yes.
So...much...evil.
"I have said this before and I will say it again," Slappy spoke in a raspy voice. "Nobody calls me a dummy."
