I

It's been about 3 months, I think, since it all started. I remember the first walker I saw. I stepped on my porch to see the weather for the day, so I could decide what to wear. And there it was. Casually walking by. I thought it was my neighbor, Vicky, so I called her name. It turned and looked at me. But it wasn't her. It started to stumble towards me. I ran back inside. I knew I had something that would be a weapon in here. Eventually, I found a big kitchen knife, and I stabbed her in the forehead as soon as I opened my door.

But that was three months ago. Now... Now I run a whole community of people.

As soon as the alarm hit. I knew what it meant. I hijacked a car and made it to my location in Roanoke, VA. It was a huge fenced in area near the dam. It had another fenced in area inside, half we had a garden for, the other was where we kept our horses. There were five buildings in the community. We even brought some trailers, using a flatbed we found. The main building, my living quarters, was what we called City Hall. It, along with the other 4 buildings, were about the size of shipping containers. I'm fairly certain the other four were. But mine had a bathroom and a kitchen. I had those rooms, a bedroom, an office, and a living room. The other buildings were turned into a Community Meeting Center, a School/Rec Center (Just in case, but we used as a cafeteria of sorts and some people used it as a church, somewhere to read, somewhere to just relax), Storage for all our weapons and food and such, and then a medical center. The trailers, 10 of them to be exact, were housing. In the middle of our community, we had a gallows. I was very strict about my rules. And it as mainly for show, having I never have used it before. But it helped send a message. Our little group has grown since the beginning. At first, it was just my best friend Audrey, her boyfriend Jed, our friend Stefanie, and myself. But now we had them, my friend Lamar, who brought his friends Nick, Khalil, Brittany, and Tyler. I found my ex, Aysa, we took him and his two brothers in. His brother, Elyas' fiance didn't make it. My friends Tanner and William found us just by luck itself. They found us before Lamar and them did. A couple strangers rolled up to our gates, looking for shelter. They had to prove themselves first. I don't let just anyone in my walls, around my people. But out of all them, we decided on a few. Marcus, who helps Aysa tend to the garden. Taylor, who I assigned to be a teacher if we ever got children because that's what she was. Leanne, who is a doctor. She was a surgeon. And then there's Kayla. She helps go on runs. She's a little badass. Then just a few random that do what they can; Lucas, Devin, Lily, and Travis.

I was sitting on my couch, wearing ripped jeans and a sleeveless black shirt, when Khalil barged into my house.

"Jade... There's a problem." He said, with worry in his voice. That wasn't a tone I was used to from him. He was the head of my infantry. He taught everyone the in and outs of weaponry.

"What kind of problem are we talking?" I stood up, my Doc Martens clogging the floor as I walked over beside my bookshelf and picked up my sledgehammer. I used it for show. And as a weapon. Took out a guy's knee with this when trying to get in this place. Used it ever since.

"Uh. Code Pink?" He said, unsure. I turned to him, walking towards him.

"Are you 100% sure it's pink?" As soon as I finished my sentence, I heard a scream. From a male. I pushed my way out my door and ran towards the source of the sound. When I reached it, I saw Lamar pointing an M16 to Lucas. He was about 17 years old. Sandy brown hair. Lanky, pale as fuck.

"What seems to be the problem here, Wisconsin?" I smiled as I laid the sledgehammer against my shoulder.

"You wanna tell her?" Lamar stepped towards Lucas, "Or should I?" At this point, everyone was gathered around us. I looked around.
