I woke up randomly in the middle of the night. I glanced over at the clock. 3:46am. I sighed as I stood up. I grabbed my sledgehammer and walked out my house, closing the door behind me. The community was so quiet, you'd think it was deserted. I walked over to trailer 4. I softly tapped on the door. A few seconds later, Elyas came to the door.
"Hey, is everything okay?" He asked, worried.
"Yeah, sorry to intrude this late. Can you get Aysa?" I leaned against the doorframe.
"Yeah, yeah. Of course." He turned and walked away. A few seconds later, Aysa came to the door, rubbing his eyes, then put his glasses on. He was wearing sweatpants and a tank top.
"You okay?" He asked, just as worried as Elyas sounded.
"Walk with me?" I asked. He stepped out and closed the door behind him. We walked down the steps and walked over towards the back gate. I stopped and looked up at him, "This is gonna be very out of character for me, okay? But bear with me," I leaned my sledgehammer against the fence and stepped closer to him, "I forgive you. But, that doesn't mean that I'm just gonna act like it's all okay. I will forever know I'm only good enough now because I'm all you have."
"Jade, you know it's not like that. I'm not asking you to be with me. I'm asking us to get over it. I'm over it."
"Of course you are. Why wouldn't you be? It didn't effect you," I scoffed.
"Wow, okay. So you think I enjoyed hurting you? That I got off on it? No. I didn't. The only time you ever talked to me was when it was sexual."
"Because I knew it was the only way to get you to talk to me..." I mumbled. He shook his head.
"That's not true at all. I still care about you. I would've talked to you regardless." He cupped the side of my face with his hand. I smiled softly, closing my eyes. Thinking about how long it's been since he's done this. I opened my eyes when I heard a branch crack on the other side of the fence. I quickly grabbed my sledgehammer. Aysa pulled out a knife, which it seemed came out of nowhere.
"You heard that too?" I whispered as I looked over to him. He nodded. We both looked out, past the fence. But, we couldn't see anything in the dark.
"Probably a deer or something. Let's get you home." He put his knife away. He smiled as he draped his arm around my shoulders and walked towards my house.
"Do you want to come in?" I asked.
"It's late. I should sleep, so I'm up on time. I have to talk with Lamar tomorrow about the new system." He went to turn away.
"You have all day to do that..." I whispered. He turned back around and smirked.
"I guess I can sit for a minute." I closed the door behind him.
"I'm sorry about what I said to you earlier." I said as I sat down on my couch.
"Don't be. I'm sorry too." He sat down next to me, leaning back into the couch.
"If you're tired, I don't want to keep you up." I mumbled. He looked at me and leaned towards me.
"I'm gonna go to bed. But, after dinner, we're gonna talk more. Because there's a lot I have to say." He stood up, kissed the top of my head, and then left.
