Aaliyah POV
"Well you can tell me about that later, but we have another surprise for you!" my mother, a professor at GeorgiaTech, told me excitedly. I groaned. "Mom, please no more surprises." You showing up is one surprise I didn't need. My ex-boyfriend, James, walked into the room.
I could barely form words. "James?" "Aaliyah its great to see you." He said grasping my hand, bringing it to his face and kissing it. I snapped it back to my side, anger growing in me. My mom smiled at my dad. "See you two will make a great couple." "The last time we were together he cheated on me! Why would I want to be with him?" My mom grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the room.
"I just want what's best for you." "I don't even like breathing the same air as him." "He's changed a lot since then. And tonight he is going to prove that to you." "I'm not going anywhere tonight." "Why are you trying to suppress your feelings for him? Is their someone else? Is it that Mexican boy?" "He's just a friend, mom" I lied. "So why not give James a chance?" I facepalmed. Had she not heard anything I told her? "Aaliyah, you need to stop thinking like a child and start getting ready for marriage and children-" "I'm only twenty." But you'll be twenty-one soon!" I turned away from her and crossed my arms. She rubbed my shoulder. "Just go on this date with him, I know you'll have a great time."
I left the bedroom and went into the livingroom. Adam wasn't there. "Where's Adam?" My dad looked back at me from the couch. "The Mexican boy?" I nodded. "He left." I frowned. My oldest brother, Michael looked at me like he knew I had feelings for Adam. I brushed it off.
James stood up. "Can we talk? Alone?" I laid my blanket on a chair and we went outside on the balcony. "Nice weather" he started. "Cut the crap James." "Aaliyah.. I love you and I would love for us to be together again." "James, I don't love you. You broke my heart, I don't want to feel like that every again." He put his lips against mine but I quickly pushed him away. "Don't you dare touch me!" I stepped past him and went inside.

To satisfy my parents, I agreed to the date. I threw on some jeans and a t-shirt to go out with James, he wasn't all that special to me that I would need to get dressed up. "Where do you think your going wearing that?" my mother stopped me. "On that stupid date." "Put on something better than that." "I'm not trying to impress him." "And why not? He loves you." "But I don't-." A knock came from the door. "Aaliyah are you ready to go?" James asked. "No, she's not" my mom answered. She went to my closet and swung the door open. She pulled out what I had wore the last night. "See this is what you should be wearing." To get her off my back I changed into the outfit and some heels. This night was going to hell.
