Christmas Day

I sat up in bed, stretching and letting out a loud yawn. Adam wasn't next to me, but various voices were heard from the kitchen. I stood up, and slipped on my fuzzy slippers. I walked into the living room seeing Adam laughing with his mom, Rico and others like Chaney, Teo, Levi, Ace, Rico's mom, Juan and a few others I had met at the reunion. They all just looked like a big, happy family. The floor creaked, and Adam turned around.

"Did we wake you?" "It was time for me to get up anyway" I said with a small smile. The young adults spoke among themselves. He beckoned me to come over, and I went and took a seat next to him. He kissed my cheek, and I rested my tired head against his shoulder. Everyone greeted me with a 'Good Morning' or a 'Merry Christmas.' It would have felt a little empty without them here. "I didn't know you were inviting people over." "Well, my mom showed up first, then everybody else just followed." I yawned again. "Are you sure you didn't want to stay in bed a little longer, big baby?" I pushed him slightly away from me. "Look, I'm gonna go take a shower, that should wake me up."

I went in the back, and took a long, hot shower. It felt so good to finally get washed up. I threw on some comfortable clothes and now was a little less tired. My mind wandered to what my brothers and mom were doing right now, and how much I missed them. I was upset about my family not being able to make it, but I understood everyone couldn't come to visit me on each holiday.

When I walked into the living room everyone was laughing, and joking, and then I realized:

this was just as good.
