One Month Later
November 23
I shook Adam awake excitedly. "Adam come on, we're going to find out the babies' genders today!" I squealed, clapping my hands. Adam sat up groggy. "Buenos días a ti también (Good morning to you too)." "Buenos días" I laughed. He stood up out of bed. "I was going to wear that sweater today" he pouted. "Sorry babe" I smiled back and waddled out of the room. Adam walked into the kitchen where I was making pancakes and scooped me you in his arms, and rested his hands on my protruding stomach. "You need to speak Spanish more often" he grinned, kissing the back of my neck. "Babe, I'm trying to cook!" I giggled. "Alright, I'll go take my shower."
When he left I began to think about what I should get him for his birthday. He obviously had enough Jordans, he was pretty good on supplies for paintings, I was at a dead end. I didn't know what else he wanted. I was in deep thought when he came back into the kitchen. "Aaliyah, you're burning the pancakes." I snapped out of my train of thought. "Thanks." I took off the burnt pancakes and put some more batter in.
"Adam what's something you've always wanted?" I asked. He sat down at the table and began to put his converse on. "This is about my birthday, right?" I flipped over a pancake, not answering. "You don't have to buy me anything. All I want is to see our kids faces in a few month." "Is there anything you want now?" "Just for you to be healthy and alright." I put the pancakes onto two plates and sat down so we could eat.

Adam opened the door for me and I walked into the clinic, which had become a normal place for us. A few couples were scattered throughout the waiting room. Adam and I found some seats and sat down to wait. I tapped my foot nervously. "Babe, calm down, you're making me nervous" Adam laughed.
"I'm going to have to call my mom and Lyra and Choochi, agh! I'm just so excited!" I squealed, drawing some attention to us. I sunk down in my seat embarrassed. One by one the couples began to go in, and we waited and waited until-
"Mrs. Williams?" the nurse called. I stood up and followed the nurse with pep in my step. When we got into the the room, Adam helped me up onto the table. "Dr.Caldwell will be with you in a few minutes." I nodded, and laid back. We waited in silence for a while until the door opened and Dr. Caldwell walked in. "Good afternoon" he greeted, sitting down his clipboard. "Buenas-I mean good afternoon." Adam chuckled at my slip up. "How is everything going?" he questioned, putting on hands sanitizer, then gloves.
"It's been good, so far, just some back pain and some nauseous." "So the normal?" he joked as he wrote something down. I laughed and nodded. "Okay, you two ready to see these babies?" I nodded excitedly. I lifted up the sweater and Adam slipped his hand into mine. Boy, this I love this man. Dr.Caldwell put the cool liquid on my stomach and ran the wand over it. During the scan, Dr.Caldwell recorded the babies measurements and took pictures. Finally, he finished and sat the clipboard aside.
"Do you want to know the sex?"
I squeezed Adam's hand and nodded. He ran the device over on my stomach again. "Well, Baby A, right here is a boy, and this baby over here" he moved the wand up "Baby B, is a girl." My eyes began to water with tears. "Oh my God...little Alfonzo and Gloria" I whispered, looking over at Adam who was mesmerized.
The older doctor smiled at us. "I can switch to the 3D mode now, if you'd like?" I nodded and a picture of the two small babies came up on the screen in a 3D picture. I gasp, and smacked Adam's leg, out of overwhelming joy.
"They have your nose" he cooed. I stroked Adam's hand with my thumb.
"Dr, is there anything I should be aware of?" "There is one thing, Your little girl is right under your rib-cage, so it may be slightly harder to breath. So, no vigorous exercise and no stressing" he warned. I nodded at looked at Adam again who watched the screen. "The babies are doing well right now, growing and developing naturally. Around 32 weeks the babies will babies growth will slow down, which is normal for twins. Your due date is set for April 13. Any questions?" I shook my head, and he left to go get some copies of the pictures. This would make the cutest picture to send on thanksgiving to my family in Atlanta, add some little turkeys or something. I thought.
That reminds me, what am I doing for Thanksgiving?
Adam came level to my stomach and put his hands on it. "Hey, little man, can you hear me in there?" I wiped my eyes. "When you get here, we're going to run this shi-" I slapped him. "They have ears you know" I reminded. Adam rubbed his arm as if he was hurt. "They don't know what I'm saying!"
Dr. Caldwell came back into the room and handed us the pictures. Adam helped me off the table. "Remember to eat healthy foods. Take in plenty of calories from foods rich in folic acid, iron, and calcium. These nutrients are essential for the healthy growth of your babies. Breads, cereals, meats, milk, cheeses, fruits, and vegetables are all good choices." I shook Dr. Caldwell's hand. "Thank you so much."
We left the room and when we got out of the clinic. I flipped my shit.
"Oh my God, Adam! We're having a boy and a girl!" I shrieked, jumping up and down slightly. Adam put his hands on my stomach. "Don't jump up and down so much, you might wake them." I rolled my eyes and him and got in the car.
