It takes all the strength I have left to stay in the village. But I do. Me and Emily wait, collecting food and water and averting our eyes from places that will let the greif flood in.
Our waiting wasn't in vain. Just a couple of hours later Meir runs into out temporary base. Shock and relief runs through my brain in harmony and all the suppressed emotions expel themselves as we embrace.
"I heard the cannon. I... I" His voice shakes and drops to almost a whisper, "I'm not leaving again. Not without you."
I put my head on his shoulder, enjoying the feel of another body, one that isn't dead.
"You're not allowed to leave me," I order into his collarbone.
"Okay"
We break apart to see Emily standing awkwardly trying to look away.
It was time to go. To leave the village. To finish the games. To get home. We had already lost Lepus. I would lose two more to even get a chance at going home. And there are still 3 careers.
It was time to leave Lepus. To leave this oasis of hell. We walk away together, not looking back.
Ok it's been literally months and so here's this tiny bit of writing. I will write more asap. I just feel like my writing is terrible so I cut this chapter short and from the next chapter on, the writing style may be slightly diffrent. Bear with me I'm trying my best and I'm sorry.
