Macy's P.O.V.
I had realized that I left the blinds open when warm sunlight caressed my skin and shined on my face. It was only around five in the morning, but I had gone to sleep a bit early the night before so I felt no need to rest again.
Instead, I changed into a plain black shirt, gray sweatpants, and fuzzy socks. Apart from the warmth of the sun outside, it was actually quite cold so I had also put on one my gray cardigans.
I called Jonathan again, wondering when he'd come home. Though, like the other times, no one had answered. So I went to the bathroom to get ready for the day, grimacing at the sight of my messy bed hair. I also frowned because of my skin. It was Autumn and the colder it seemed to get, the more my skin would become dry. I figured I'd buy a face moisturizer once I went downtown again.
The house was silent. The only noise was the creaking of wood under my feet as I walked down the stairs, the noise disappearing once my feet touched the carpet.
A bit uncomfortable with the silence, I put some music on. I made sure not to put it too loud. My phone played a passionate violin medley of songs by Lindsey Stirling from The Phantom of the Opera. It played in the background as I began making scrambled eggs and toast.
I noticed that Jonathan only had basic food necessities so I couldn't add Nutella to my toast or make an omelette since there were no tomatoes, onions, bacon, or basil.
Suddenly, I heard quiet barking. It happened quickly and I was almost convinced that it came from upstairs. I shook my head at the silly thought and placed my food on the table.
Birds chirped outside, thankfully quiet enough that my music drowned it out.
Hopefully I'd be able to talk to Evan again today. I had checked his YouTube channel yesterday before sleeping. He was much more popular than I expected, which was a bit surprising. Still, it didn't matter. He was still Evan, the boy who cracked jokes continually and was fun to talk to. It felt good to have another friend here, even if it was through Skype.
I finished up the rest of my food and washed the rest of the dishes. Then I continued on to clean the kitchen and living room, everything looking neat and tidy when I was finished.
I was about to relax on the couch with a cup of coffee and my laptop before I was ambushed by a huge pitbull.
It immediately jumped on me and I was about to scream until it began licking my face playfully.
I recomposed myself and sighed in relief seeing that my coffee and my laptop didn't fall off Jonathan's coffee table. I sat on the couch with my legs crossed and let the dog sit on my lap. I checked her collar and her sex. Her name was Baby and she was female. I laughed as she snuggled further against my stomach.
"Baby. That's a cute name. It suits you," I cooed, petting her. "Now how did you get in here?"
There was no address on her collar and I was certain that I locked all the doors last night. Maybe she was here all along and I just hadn't seen here. Then again, Jonathan would have told me about her.
"Baby?" I heard another voice call out from the stairs. I screamed and Baby jumped off my lap towards the voice.
I looked towards the stairs and became wide eyed at the sight of Jonathan in his pajamas, hugging Baby. His eyes showed the same surprise.
"When did you come home?"
"Last night. I completely forgot that I asked you to house sit. Thanks for this, Macy. The house looks better than before I left and I saw that the my videos were uploaded. I also see you've met Baby."
A smile found its way to my face and I kneeled down, laughing as Baby ran over to me, sitting on my lap again. I looked up at Jonathan as he stared at me with an indescribable emotion. I could only guess what goes on in that head of his.
"She's a beauty. Would you like some toast?" I asked.
"I can make it myself. Thank you though. Just watch Baby for now. I don't want her to go wandering around since she doesn't really know the place."
I nodded and laid back on the couch with my laptop on my stomach and Baby resting on my legs. I asked Jonathan about her and he revealed very little. He said that he picked her up from his old home.
His tone changed when he said home. I didn't question him any further.
"So did anything happen while I was gone?"
My eyes widened again and I'm glad I was staring at my laptop instead of him. "Well, I met two of your friends."
I refused to look behind me where he was sitting at the table.
"Who?" His voice was a bit deeper. My heart pounded. I contemplated lying, but I was already in too deep. "Macy, who?"
"I forgot to turn your computer off yesterday and it started ringing all weird, so I answered it and may have ended up chatting with the person face to face. I also met your friend Luke, who I thought broke in at first but it turns out he knew where the spare key was."
Jonathan didn't say anything for a moment. I was petting Baby absentmindedly as I stared at my laptop.
"Who did you Skype face to face?"
"Your friend Evan." He let out a small sigh of relief. "We talked for a few hours. He's really cool."
"Hours? Macy, what did you two talk about?"
I explained to Jonathan that we talked a bit about him, like how he was online compared to how he was here. Other than that, we just learned more about each other and told jokes. I also had included that Evan loved knock knock jokes.
I spared a tiny glance at Jonathan. He looked conflicted, as if he wasn't sure how to feel about it. Then I saw him sigh.
"Well, I guess that's fine. Were you able to finish those animations?"
I nodded and called him over to look at the animations on my laptop. A smile once again appeared on my face when he told me that he really liked them.
"I can go pack my stuff now."
He suddenly stopped me, looking conflicted again. I had already discovered that he didn't like to ask for a lot if they weren't important. It was as if he didn't want to be alone and I understood that just by the look in his eyes. Something must have happened while he was away.
"I can stay, Jonathan," I said, reassuring him. He looked up at me with a grateful gleam in his eyes. "If we get to take Baby out for a walk downtown later tonight."
"That'd be great," he answered, patting Baby's head, then mine. I really did wonder what goes on in that head of his.
