Dad, Glenn, Abe, and a few other people went out to distract a herd of walkers away from home. They have been gone for a while now and I was getting worried.
I laid Judith in her crib and walked over to the window. It was a very beautiful day. I looked down and I saw one of Carol's friends smoking on her lawn. Then, I saw a man run up to her and slice her stomach open.
My eyes widened and I ran into my room. I grabbed an assault rifle out of my closet and ran downstairs. Carol was about to leave the house. "I saw it. They're coming in from all over." I said on the steps. "You have to stay here and keep Judith safe." Carol said as she ran out of the door.
I walked around the house and heard someone was unlocking the door. I leaned up against the wall as they were coming in. I got my gun ready. They walked in the door and I aimed my gun.
It was Enid. "Hi." She said. I put the gun down and closed the door behind her. "Why didn't you just knock?" I asked. "I had these." She said as she held out keys. "I didn't want them to get them." I put the keys on the counter. "And I came to say goodbye." She said. "Watch the back door, tell me if you see anything coming." I said walking into the living room. "I'm not staying!" She said angrily. I looked at her. "You're not leaving." I said. "Sit down. You're helping me protect Judith." I said.
She sighed and sat down. I sat back to back with her. "Did you see them?" I asked. "They're just people." She said. "This place is too big to protect. There are too many blind spots. That's how we were able to-" I cut her off. "They got in the walls. But they're going to die," I said. "All of them."
We didn't speak for a moment.
"Don't tell me goodbye." I said. Enid sighed. "Okay." She said. "I won't."
