The tree

We ran and ran through the woods as fast as we could. It felt good finally feeling like a normal kid. Suddenly she stopped. I stopped beside her and saw a walker. I was about to pull out my knife when I saw her pull out a timer.
She set the timer for 5 seconds and threw it in the woods near the walkers. It heard the leaves move and started walking towards us. The timer went off and the walker tried to find it. We started laughing and ran another way.
After a while, we stopped at a fallen tree. Enid sat down and I sat beside her.
"We're supposed to be out here. We're supposed to feel like this. I don't want to forget." She said sadly panting. "And running makes me feel better." I sighed. "I can't forget." I said. "I dream about it. Being in the woods, with them."
"I do too." She said sadly. "Ron's a good guy." I said. I automatically regretted that. "He is." She said happily. "Why do i scare you?" I asked. "I don't know. You just do." She said pulling out her knife pulling out her knife. She started carving into a tree.
"Cool knife." I said.
"It was my mom's." She said sadly looking at it. "What happened to you? Before you got there." I asked.
She hesitated. "Does it matter?"
"It does. Something bad has happened to me too." I said thinking about when I got shot. I thought about all of the people I lost.
Ed, Amy, Jim, Jacqui, Sophia, Dale, Shane, T-Dog, Axel, Merle, Patrick, Hershel, Lizzie, Mika, Bob, Beth, Tyreese, and my Mom.
Suddenly we heard walkers from behind us. "It sounds like a lot. We should go." I said. She walked into a hollowed out tree, so I followed. We were so close. I looked at the walkers to make sure they didn't smell us when she whispered something in my ear. "It's their world we're just living in it."
I looked at her. She was so beautiful. What am I saying?! I lost control of my body. My hand touched hers. Suddenly, I realized that she had a knife in her hand. I regained feeling and looked at the walkers again. Sighing because what an idiot I was.
"Cool. You're afraid of me too." She whispered.
