Friday Evening
Jessica's P.OV.
Jessica's Home
I unlocked the frontdoor and Danny followed me inside. We walked into the family room but of course no was in there. I turned to Danny.
"Well Imma go up stairs and get them, so you can just wait here." I handed him the remote so he could watch tv.
I dashed up the first flight of stairs and set down my bags from the mall in my closet. I left out of my room and headed up the next set of stairs to find my parents. My dad was in his office on his laptop as usual. He stays in his office a lot. I think he even has a sleeping bag and a pillow in his closet for when he gets sick of mom. "Hi dad" He doesn't even look up at at me when he says "Hey sweetheart" He just keeps typing away. "So I have someone downstairs I would like for you to meet. His name is Daniel and he is my homecoming date." My dad is still just sitting there typing. "Ok Jess I'll be down in a few." Most fathers are worried sick when there daughter brings a boy home but not my dad. He doesn't even seem to care.
I leave out of there and head to my mom's room. She was in her closet. "Hey Mom, my date for homecoming is downstairs in the family room. He would like to meet you, that is if you don't mind." She turns around eyeing me.
Now before I go any further let me give you some key details about my mother. She has chocolate brown skin like me. She use to wear her black, relaxed hair, long and straight past her shoulders when I was younger but when I was middle school she got it cut into a soft bob with side swept bangs. She is a curvy women but she is not fat. My mom is beautiful and I definitely resemble her.
"Who is your date? When did you take it upon yourself to start mingling with boys? Do we know his parents?...."
The list goes on as she continues the criteria of questions. I'm really not in the mood to here this superficial list so I say:
"Hey mom why don't you just come downstairs with me and he can answer all your questions."
---------------------------------------------
When Mom and I walked downstairs, Dad was already talking to Daniel. They were laughing and I was shocked because I rarely catch my dad smiling much less laughing. As soon as my mom caught sight of Daniel she turned around and went upstairs. I knew she going act like this. She makes me mad because instead of being happy for me, she storms off with a bad attitude. I decide not to go upstairs and plead with her to meet him because my mother is going to all mad black angry women on me and I'M not trying to get a headache or a sore ego right now. If there is one thing she knows how to do it's how to tear someone down with words. I don't care anymore though, because it's her problem, not mine. She is the only one I know who can judge someone without knowing them and then have the nerve to turn around and talk about them.
I mean I love and respect my mother but I wish she would love and respect me too.
I walk into the family room as my dad was walking out. The only thing he said to me was that Daniel had a good head on his shoulders. That means a lot coming from my dad considering he only talks when he has to.
Daniel was looking at a picture on wall with his back to me. I walked up behind him and put my hands over his eyes. I stood on my tippy toes just barely tall enough to whisper in his ear, "Guess who?".
"The princess our course."
He turned around and holds both of my hands in his. "But where is the queen?" His amber eyes where searching mine. I didn't want to tell Danny the truth but I didn't want to lie to him either.
"Do you really want to know?, because I'M not sure your going to want to hear what I'm about to say." I looked at him sadly because It wasn't his fault my mom is jerk.
"Jess you don't have to explain to me baby. I understand your mother doesn't like our relationship but it's ok because I'm staying by you through the thick and thin." As he soothes me with his words, he runs one of hands up and down my arm while the other is holding my hand.
I love how he can calm me down when I'm ready to explode. I just hope we will always be like this because I have been so attached lately and usually I'm not so dependent.
