When I pulled into the player's parking lot, it was already down pouring. Wow, rain just loves to follow me around.
With the snack bag and my phone in my hands, I got out of my car, locked it, and walked into the familiar player entrance of the Friendly Confines.
As soon as I got through the door, I saw my parents waiting for me. Instantly, I hugged my mother and then my dad. It was so great seeing them. I haven't seen them in like two months, so regardless of the situation, It is great to see them.
"Oh, don't ever pull a thing like this again. Your mother's old heart can't take this again."
"Mom, you're not that old. You have plenty of life left."
"I know, but I'd like to have a grandchild to spoil in my final years," she said smiling at me, trying to look so innocent.
"Yeah, son we are not getting any younger here," my dad said, smiling.
We started to walk down the hallway to the clubhouse entrance. "So how long are you guys staying out here?" I asked, grabbing some of the cookies out of the bag.
"Well, we are thinking about staying here until you guys go on a road trip," my dad said not knowing any of the dates. Truthfully, I never have a clue either. I just go where ever I get told to go. Well except this past weekend.
"Most likely Sunday we are leaving," my mom said rolling at us. Without her, I don't know if I'd ever know what was going on when I was growing up. She'd always let me know when my games are and everything.
My dad grabbed one of the cookies that I had in my hand and starting eating it. "You know that cookies are not the best food to eat."
"I know, dad. I'm just hungry. Also, I was given these by the people that took care of me yesterday."
"Was any of these people cute?" my dad asked, which made me laugh and nod. "What is her name?"
"Wow Dad, you're worse that the guys, but her name is Margret. She has two kids though." I felt my cheeks heat up, and I think I'm blushing. Why do I have to be blushing at a time like this!
"Oo, I'd be an instant grandma. So when are we going to meet this girl?"
At that moment, I remembered that we didn't exchange numbers. I had no way of getting ahold of her. I felt my heart sink. Why did this have to happen to me. I finally found someone that I liked more than baseball, and she is gone forever.
"Probably never, we didn't give each other our numbers," I said being extremely gloomy. I just had my heart broken.
"Didn't give each other your numbers, eh!" my dad expressed a little too loudly. "Then what do you say about that phone number on the side of the bag?"
I was total off guard for that. I looked at the bag and sure enough there was a phone number on the side of the bag. It even told me to call her between the hours of eight and four, Monday thru Friday. Margret sure knows how to stay a top of her game, even I'm not that good. Maybe it's just the mother in her shining out.
My parents and I continued to talk and joke around until we got to the Clubhouse entrance. I hugged each of them again before I told them I'll meet them after the game. And with that, I walked into the abnormally quiet clubhouse.
Right away I saw a banner that read, "Welcome Back to the Grind of the Cubs, Kris Bryant!"
I hoped that all of you had an amazing Thanksgiving, and that you enjoyed this part. Remember I'll be posting again for the next couple of days consecutive. Let me know what you think, and enjoy your break.
