The game got postponed, so my parents and I decided to just go back to my place. We had baseball on the television, but I couldn't focus on the game or my parents, who was talking around me. My mind was just on Margret.

It was only 3:45. Mentally debating if I should call her, I excused myself from the room and typed her number into my cell. I sat on my bed hesitantly to push the call button, but and impulse went through my body and clicked that stupid button.

The phone rang and it rang. I was about to hang up, when I heard the familiar voice, "Hello?"

I was frozen. What do I say?

"Hello?" her voice was full of urgency.

"Um... Margret. It's Kris." That was all that I could say. I could barely let those words leave my lips. I have no clue why I was so nervous to talk to her.

I could almost hear her smile and chuckle. "Hey Kris, aren't you supposed to be playing baseball right now?"

"Yeah, well, the game kind of got cancelled. I'm home right now, thinking of you." I don't know why I said that. I was just so nervous.

"Well, I couldn't forget about you since Jefferson only talks about you."

Both of us laughed for couple of seconds. We went silent for a little bit. I had no idea what else I wanted to say. It's so much easier to talk to her in person. "What about the rest of the day. You know, when Jeff was in school?"

"Yeah, no matter how busy the store got, my mind was still on you. Is that a bad thing?"

"Not at all. Well, at least I think so."

"Okay, so... right now Jeff is watching videos of you batting. He wants to hit like you. I think that he is crazy. I tried to tell him that he should have his own style, not copy someone else's. But of course, he doesn't listen to his mommy." She was laughing as she finished her little story. Her laughter made me smile and blush, a tiny bit.

"Well, he should listen to you. Haven't he heard of the saying, 'Mom's know best'?"

"Yeah, but he doesn't believe that when it comes to baseball. Maybe you should tell him sometime so he doesn't become, Kris Bryant the Second. Everyone wants to be a Kris Bryant, but Jeff should strive to be Jefferson."

"That is wisdom right there. How did you become so smart?"

"Well... these are lessons my mother taught me. She was a very smart women. I hope that I'm at least one-fourth of a woman that she is."

"Well, I don't know your mother, but what it sounds like, you are more of your mother than you think. But that is just me, an outsider's point of view."

She was laughing once more. "Thanks, even if you are just an outsider."

"I hope that someday I'd be more than just an outsider." Oh my, did I just say that. She must probably think that I'm an idiot.

I heard her laugh from the other side of the phone. "I hope so too, Kris. I mean, Jeff probably would love to see one of his now favorite major league baseball player again."

"Just Jeff. Is he the only one that wants to see me again?"

"No, Josalynn can't shut about you!"

"What about you, Margret?"

"Yeah, I definitely want to see you again, Kris. Is that bad to say that I do, because I really do."

I smiled at that. "No, that's not back because I want to see you again."

"Just promise that you won't drive up here on an off day unless you check the weather first." Our conversation was halted since both of us was laughing about that.

"I promise, Margret."

"Good... hey Kris, I got to get going. Call me again if you can; I'll appreciate it greatly."

"Will do." That was all that I could say before the beep came. I sat there on my bed, thinking about Margret. I hope that this girl will be mine, someday, if not today.
