"Who do you suppose this is?"

I woke up with a start, but kept my eyes closed and pretended to sleep.

"I don't know... I suppose we should take her to the Hokage. She is trespassing after all."

Hokage? That means I must be near Konoha...

I heard the rustling of leaves then felt a pair of hands on my waist. I flinched a little, but tried to conceal it. The person didn't notice. They picked me up and jumped down from the tree I was sleeping in only a moment ago. I decided to open my eyes and take a look at my captors.

The one carrying me had brown hair and a Hidden Leaf Shinobi headband. Bangs covered the right side of his face and his headband was covering the top of his head. He was wearing what appeared to be the classic Jonin attire and some type of blue material covered his chin.

"So you're awake, huh?"

"Yeah, and I'd appreciate it if you put me down and left me alone. I won't cause any harm to your village. I was just passing through." I tried to struggle out of the man's hands, but he kept a firm grip on me. "Sorry, but before we can let you go we have to take you to the Hokage." I sighed and stopped my struggling, allowing myself to be carried to the Hokage's office. I didn't like to fight when it wasn't going to cause any real harm.

After a few short knocks from the man who brought me, a gravely old voice welcomed us in. The man ordered me to bow for the Third and I not-so-happily obliged.

"Who is this, Izumo?" My captor, Izumo, set me on the ground and said, "I didn't bother asking."

The Hokage sighed a little then smiled at me. "Come here, child. Izumo, you can leave." I grit my teeth at the name "child", but kept my mouth shut. Despite my stubborn nature, even I knew better than to insult the Hokage.

"But-"

"It's fine, you can go."

"Yes, Lord Hokage." Izumo bowed and poofed away. The Hokage turned back to me as I walked up to the very front of his desk. "Care to tell me your name?" I shrugged and crossed my arms across my chest.

"If I do can I leave your village? I didn't want to go here in the first place." He just gave me a small smile, further ruining my mood. His "I'm a nice old man" facade wasn't going to trick me into trusting him that easily.

"No, I'm sorry. I can't let you leave just yet. Telling me your name might help a bit though."

I sighed and nodded my head with reluctance. I suppose a name isn't asking too much. "My name's Hibiki."

"Last name?" I sighed again, glaring at him.

"You know you're asking for a lot, right? I don't even know you."

The Hokage chuckled. "Then allow me to get to know you. I'll be happy to answer any questions you have after I get a sense of who you are. I don't know you either, after all."

I pursed my lips, but saw the genuine trust in his aged eyes. His words made sense, and I felt myself starting to relax around him. "Tsukino. My name is Hibiki Tsukino."

His eyes widened for a moment, then he shook his head and regained his composure. "But I thought," he mumbled.

"Nope," I cut him off, "there's still me." The Hokage didn't move for a while before shaking his head and mumbling more things under his breath. He took out some papers from under his desk and began to flip through them. "The name Hibiki isn't mentioned anywhere in this book, though. I don't mean to sound rude, but you also look nothing like a Tsukino. They're known for their black hair and blue eyes."

"Yeah, I know that." I pinched the bridge of my nose in annoyance. The longer I was forced to stay here the longer it would take for me to get back. "I just want to leave here, okay? Get back to my travels." The Hokage took a puff of smoke from the pipe hanging out of his mouth.

"What about your parents or guardian? Is there anyone with you?" I shook my head.

"My parents are dead. And I have no guardian. I've always traveled alone." Everything I just said was true except for the last part. In the past I traveled with others, and I once lived in the Village Hidden in the Stars, but I ran away.

"You've been alone your whole life?" I frowned a little at the Hokage's pitying eyes.

"Yeah, but I don't need your pity. It's easier to be alone. Now can I leave?"

"No."

"What?!" I stood up to my full height and shook my head. "I answered all of your questions and you still won't let me go?" I scoffed. "Fine, I thought you'd let me go in peace. Guess nothing can go easily for me." I turned toward the door and slammed through it. The air stung my cheeks as I ran out of the Hokage's building and turned down a street with a lot of people. I could hear the rapid heartbeats of others in pursuit.

Of course I had to be found today. I turned another corner and ran into a building. "Sorry, excuse me, sorry," I said when I passed people. I ran into one of the rooms.

There were kids about my age sitting there and a man with brown hair and a slash running across his nose. I didn't have time to do anything because just as I was about to jump out of a window, someone grabbed me. I put one of my hands up in a sign and used a substitution. I smirked from my new position outside the window. Too easy.

I ran and eventually found the gates. Yes, freedom! I brought chakra into my legs and ran even faster. A smile graced my face under the mask as I turned around and saw all of the ninjas behind me. Once I got out of the gates there would be nothing they could do, I thought. That is, until I slammed into something, or rather, someone. I fell back and my head smacked into the ground. I felt myself being picked up before everything faded into black.

I know it's short but please forgive me. Tell me if this sucks, I'm open to criticism! This is the first chapter so it's kinda slow. Please hang with me though! I'm going to update the next chapter now. ^_^
