Daniella POV
"Honey?" I blinked a few times, the sun was peaking through the curtains as Suzanne shook me slightly. "Today is the day..."
"Okay.... Give me a few minutes to wake up I'll be down in a few." She nodded and walked out of my bedroom, well Gerald and I's bedroom. I waited till the door was closed before getting up slowly. My body ached, my diet had been anything but healthy. Grey decorated under my eyes. Everyone seemed to not notice, maybe because of my choice of clothing lately. Then again there was also the make up that hid the dark grey under my eyes. Yet today I just couldn't manage the fake image. I forced myself to the shower, washing away another night alone.
The past month had been a blur. Thanksgiving I stared at my plate then cried away. The meal went untouched, I couldn't bare to sit and eat without Gerald. He always loved the holidays, his mom could kill you with her amazing cooking in the best way. This trial was my only hope of not spending Christmas alone, glaring at the boxes of decorations I had been refusing to put up till his return. I slid into the leggings Ellie had bought for me and the long sweater that hid the tiny baby bump before tackling the task of my hair. It was fumbled up into a bun before I put on my jacket and boots, heading downstairs. Richard was staring me down along with Grady and Matt. They all knew I hadn't been feeling my best. Far from it actually.
"Ready?"
"Mmm." I shrugged and followed Ellie into one of the SUVs. In one car was Suzanne, Ellie, Grady, and myself. The other car was Richard, Marty, and Matt. It felt like we were going to a funeral, except this one was at the court house. My stomach was churning, I was glad I didn't dare to attempt breakfast this morning. They scanned us, checked us in and finally let us in the court room. His back was to me, but in a way I barely recognized him. His hair was still slicked back, except shades of purple adorned his arms, face, even neck. I wanted to turn around and to run out of the court room. I didn't want to believe what everyone had been whispering about their visit. That he was the target of so many fights. They couldn't even let him eat with the other inmates at this point. They all wanted him dead, probably because of his father. My breath got stuck in my throat as I sat down and he turned around to look at me. His eyes grew slightly wide before looking to Suzanne. It was as if he had seen a ghost. Did I really look that bad?
"Daniella Evans?"
"Yes?" I mumbled looking to the man sitting beside Gerald, David Lawrence I believed was his name.
"They've requested you testify... are you willing?'
"Of course..."
"Danny... You don't have to do it."
"I will." I mumbled still glancing to Gerald before looking down. I was exhausted as I tried to focus on the proceedings. The Lawyers opened up with their arguments, debating his innocence. Before I knew it I was being called up, I could barely function and the saddest part was that I didn't even notice.
"Miss Evan where was Mr. Gillum on the night of September 28th?"
"He was in London... I had spoken with him for a few minutes that evening. It was I would say... 2am London time."
"What was he doing?"
"Resting in his suite because he couldn't sleep."
"Can you be more specific? Who was he with?" I shrugged, Lawrence yelled object, yet I still had to answer.
"With a... a whore."
"And you're carrying Mr. Gillum's baby correct?"
"Correct."
"So would you say the crime fits Mr. Gillum's behavior."
"No... "
"Why?"
"Because if you listen to G-eazy's music... he's a man whore... he is far from a hardcore criminal. Especially with that much cocaine. I would have known."
"I see.... That is all your honor." My vision blurred yet it wasn't tears. All I could do was look to Gerald, my mouth ajar.
"She's gonna faint!" He yelled then it was dark.
"Honey...." A voice came through the clouds of my mind. I wasn't in the court room anymore, the softness of hospital sheets surrounded me. "Danny you awake."
"Mmm where... Is Gerald."
"They jury is out deliberating. They were able to finish the trial today however you gave us all a scare." I opened my eyes looking to Susanna and Ellie before sighing softly.
" What happened?"
"You fainted... When was the last time you ate Danny?" I shrugged before closing my eyes again.
"You need to eat... I don't care how upset you are D you need to stay healthy." It was then that I became illogical. Opening my eyes as I pressed the button for the nurse.
"Get out. Get the fuck out!" Never had I raised my voice to Ellie let alone Suzanne. The nurse walked in, board in hand. "Get them out! I don't want visitors!"
"Danny!"
"I'm sorry but you have to leave..." The short red headed nurse ushered them out, closing the door and finally I was alone again. I had thrived off of being alone lately. Like always I couldn't help but stare down at my ring. This time the anger got the best of me. Maybe it wasn't anger, I'll call it frustration. I yanked it off and chucked it at the wall, satisfied when the metal clanged against the tiles. Like always my pain ended in tears because of this stupid pregnancy. I was on my own. The way I needed to be because depending on everyone else seemed to always get me involved in shit.
Like a weight I sunk into the sheets and blankets, closing my eyes and watching the iv supply me with fluids like a balloon. Sure enough they had already forced food into my body. I lacked any nutrients for the poor creature inside of me. Maybe I wasn't fit for this life as a mother and wife.
