Divergent Love

Chapter 6

All 8 initiates stand in front of the target. None of them get cut in the ear like I did that first year. I wonder if the only reason why Will wanted to do that was to see if he could do it without cutting my ear off!

Charlotte walked in the room during Annie's turn. Charlotte went after Annie. The whole time I watched her. The Dauntless look down on girls who have babies before they are married. Will she get thrown out if Liam doesn't agree to marry her?

After the knife throwing we dismiss them for the day. I stop Charlotte and Liam and tell them they need to talk. I walk over to Tobias and help him put the knives away.

"What's all that about?" He asks.

"She's pregnant and I am making her tell him now." I reply

"Pregnant?" He asks. "After last night?"

"I don't think so." I say, "they must have done it some other time."

I listen into their conversation.

Liam: "You have to get rid if it"

Charlotte: "I cannot"

Liam: "we will be ruined Charlotte! you will be made factionless!"

Charlotte: "what about you? Won't you be made factionless to?"

Liam: "if you keep it I'm denying its mine."

Charlotte: "I though you loved me?"

Liam: "yes you thought wrong. I'm a 16 year old boy who wanted to get layed"

Charlotte: " so the 3 times we did it, you didn't feel anything?"

Liam: "i felt something Hun! Just it wasn't love"

Charlotte: "if I get rid of it will you love me?"

Liam: "no because you'll either be dead or factionless. I'm done with you, I think I'm gonna try and go after Annie or Katie or maybe Carla the dauntless girl."

Charlotte: "your sick you know that!"

And with Charlotte screaming abuse at Liam he left the room. She sank to the floor curling her head into her knees crying. I walk over to her.

"Are you okay?" I ask. Tobias walks over and joins me.

"What do you think? He is done with me and I still have to face initiation and then give birth and raise a child. With no one to help me. I don't even have a family!" Charlotte cries

"Charlotte you must not get rid of it." I say. " it could kill you!"

"What if I want to kill myself? Kill myself and the child then everyone will be happy!" She cries.

"Charlotte everything will be fine. Someone will love you and will love that child." I explain. "Don't give up!"

"Easy for you to say when you love someone and have a boyfriend." She groans.

"You think falling for him was easy?" I laugh. "He was my instructor 5 years ago, he was 18 I was 16, he through knives at my head and cut my ear on purpose, climbed the Ferris wheel with me, saved me from nearly getting thrown of the chasm by Liam's older brother and some of his friends..."

"Don't forget the crows!" He laughs.

"Oh yeah the crows! My first fear in stage 2. I woke up crying thinking I was being tortured and he helped me get out of that state!" I laugh. "Love is never easy but you will find it against all the odds. Cause we did after our terrible pasts!"

"I just feel like I'm failing." Charlotte sighs.

"You realise your ranked joint first?" Tobias asks. "Your not failing."

"Do you have any other friends?" I ask. "Or have you spent all your time with Liam?"

"There is Noah but he seems so wounded." I say.

"Wounded?" I ask.

"We dated." She mentions. "A few years ago. We were childhood friends. His older brother and sister were always to old for us to play with, so we played together everyday until we were 12. Then on my 13th birthday he said he had a present for me. A kiss. We were secretly together for 3 years. Never doing anything more than kissing. We broke up 6months before the choosing ceremony after i met Liam. We quickly fell in love or so I thought, he persuaded me to join Dauntless with him even though I had an aptitude test for abnegation. The selflessness in me was what made me choose Dauntless. He told me he loved me, he taught me how to fight, to shoot, to throw knives. He had heard everything about initiation from his brother, Peter. He even taught me how to face my fears and how I could be brave when doing so. But 4 months ago was the first time we had sex. We skipped school and went to the meadow. We did it and it felt good. The second time was after the aptitude tests. He told me that we would finally be together tomorrow, finally our lives as equals would begin. So we came here. Noah chose it to. I hadn't spoke to him for 6 months until last night when I stuck up for him when Sara was being mean. I guess now I'm the one who is wounded."

"Why don't you apologise to Noah?" I suggest. "Start talking to him again, like you used to."

"I guess I can try!" Charlotte smiles.

"Charlotte how far is your pregnancy?" Tobias asks.

"Four months" she says.

"Five months to go then" is all I say. "Go to bed early and ignore Liam and speak to Noah, I know this will be hard but me and Four will always be here if you need advice, we may seem intimidating and scary but we are actually really nice." We all laugh and then Charlotte leaves the room.

"The girl has had a rough time!" Tobias says.

"I know." I say, " I feel bad for her"

We don't go dinner that night and instead just go straight back to our apartment. When we get there and we have gotten ready for bed and I am lying in Tobias' arms he says.

"Tris, we've been together for 5 years now. I'm 23, your 21 don't you think that it's about time we get married?" He asks.

"Was that you proposing to me?" I ask.

"Yes I guess it was." He laughs.

"Then no I will not marry you!"

"Why not?" He asks with a sad expression on his face.

"That was not romantic in any way, I will say yes maybe to another proposal!" I giggle. He jabs my tummy and sighs.

"I want a baby." Tobias laughs.

"Me too, I guess" I smile looking into his eyes.

"How many do you think we'll have?" I ask.

" 4? Or 6?" Tobias says.

"I think 10 because 4 + 6 is 10." I laugh.

"We are not having 10 children. We are having 4 at the most!" He protests.

"I'm happy with 4 maybe only 2 though or 3." I begin. "Maybe 4, we can see though!"

Tobias just smiles at me and kisses my head.

"I love you, you know." He whispers.

"Yes I do know, I know very well." I kiss him on the lips and then he rocks me to sleep in his big strong beautiful arms. My Tobias the man of my dreams, my future husband and the future father to my planned 10 children. I'm just joking my future 4 children.
