Divergent Love

Chapter 12

"Okay everybody listen up!" I yell in the dark corridor where the initiates sit waiting to face their first fears. "We will call you in one by one and you will face one of your fears through a simulation as we said at the start of initiation the second stage is weighed alot heavier than the first so keep that in mind." I glance at Tobias. "And remember your results are combined from here on out, transfers and dauntless borns together. Good luck everyone." I add.

"Sara" Tobias yells and he ushers her into the room and then I follow. He shuts the door and sets up the computers and wires.

"Where's Zeke ?" She asks.

"We take this part of initiation as Four know the most about computers out of the 4 of us so we do it, why?" I ask.

"No reason." She smirks.

"Take a seat." I say gesturing to the chair.

"So what is this?" She asks.

"You will be put in a fear simulation. You will face one of your fears. Find a way to lower your heart rate or face your fear. The first time is always the hardest so be brave." Tobias says passing me the syringe.

"Ready?" I ask her. She nods and I put the needle in her neck just like Tobias taught me when I first went through his fear landscape. I walk round to the monitors so I can see her fear, I wonder what it will be.

Each initiate faces their fear and takes a certain amount of time to do so.

Sara's is bleeding to death and it takes her 10 minutes to get out. Liam took 15 minutes to get out of his which was burning to death. Annie shares the same fear as me which is killing her family but she spent ages crying and shot them after 20 minutes of sobbing. Tobias and I looked at her in disgust for taking so long and crying horribly about it. She's such a coward! Violet faced painful torture for 20 minutes and it took her this long to handle her breathing and lower her heart rate. Charlottes fear kinda freaked me out because I know it's real. Her fear was people finding out she was pregnant and then stoning her for being a "whore" but luckily it only took her 4 minutes to get out. The quickest time today. When she awakes she is crying and distraught.

"Are you okay?" I ask her

"What do you think? I just got stoned to death!" She screams.

"Calm down it's only a simulation!" I reassure her.

"Only a simulation? Only a fucking simulation? What if that happens to me? Soon I will begin to get a baby bump and then ill be good as dead!" She yells.

"We won't let that happen Charlotte." I say.

"Oh really?" She snorts. "I doubt it, your Dauntless you have nothing but bravery in your body. You won't care about anyone else your not Abnegation!"

"That's enough!" I say. "Go back to the dormitory we have others to see."

"See what i mean Four? Not a selfless bone in her body or an honest one or a smart one or a kind one" she begins to yell at me.

"GET OUT!" Tobias yells, "you will not and never again shall you speak to me, my girlfriend who are your trainers in this manner again. Your doing pretty well your probably going to be ranked first. Don't make me change the ranks because of your stupidity. Now you heard us go back to the dormitory."

She leaves silently after that. Once the doors close I look at Tobias. I raise my eyebrows.

"Divergent?" I ask

"I think she may be." He looks sad.

"What's wrong?"

"We could use her you know if you wanted?"

"To send to my brother?"

His face his stern. I don't know what to make of it but he begins to nod slowly. Then he walks over and takes my face in his hands.

"If it would protect you, then I don't care who goes." He says kissing me.

"Tobias if I do that then, I have broken and went against why you fell in love with me." I say.

"You can be selfish sometimes in your life, but you are selfless and you are brave and you are smart that's the girl I fell in love with and I don't want anything bad to happen to her." Tobias kisses me again.

"I suppose Charlotte wants to die anyway." I say "or she will when the Dautless leaders find out"

"Exactly, but who do we tell?" He asks.

"Will?"

"Yes Will!"

"Tobias, we need to make it seem like we are doing him a favour." I say

"How?"

"We tell him she is pregnant and is also Divergent and then he will speak to her." I begin to explain. "But we tell him what the erudite want, they want a divergent so they should take her because she will die anyway."

"I agree, your so smart!" He kisses me on the forehead. "Don't listen to her. Your special to me and not only a brave seeking dauntless although you are exactly that but more!" Tobias smiles. I kiss him hard on the lips and then walk out the door to get the next initiate.

We decide to go and see Will after we finish doing the other simulations. Noah faced drowning for 30 minutes he was pale as a ghost when he awoke from the simulation. Carla was trapped in a box for 15 minutes as she faced her fear of being in small spaces. Watching her fear reminded me of when I was pushed up against Tobias in a box in his fear landscape and the only way we escaped it was him laughing at me because my heart was racing over him and I couldn't lie to save myself from embarrassment. Talking about embarrassment Luke faced this as his fear for 40 minutes it was a long time watching him face different humiliating situations. Vicki spent 10 minutes braving up the courage to murder someone. She managed to do it, though I don't know how. She didn't even seem affected by it at all. Maybe she won't face this fear again but who knows? Katie only took 5 minutes to get through her fear of having no control. Like me she was swimming in the sea with waves throwing her about and not being able to have control of swimming or grip on rocks. I too have this fear and I know what it feels like. Dean spent 40 minutes being forced to torture other people which I find it to be a rather bizarre yet horrifying fear. Neil spent 20 minutes trying to face his fear of being shot. And the one which me and Tobias found quite hilarious was Zachs. His fear was Tobias! It only took him 5 minutes to face Tobias and beat him in a fake fight but when he awakes his cheeks blush with embarrassment.

"So you fear me do you?" Tobias laughs

"I'm sorry" he apologises. "But your very intimidating!"

"Don't be sorry! I should scare you. That's why I'm here anyway." Tobias laughs.

"Now get going, well done on your time though!" I say.

"How long was it?"

"Only 5 minutes" I smile

At that his blush goes away and he smiles walking out the room. Once the door is shut I turn to Tobias. He walks towards me.

"Should we do this?" I ask him.

"To protect you yes," he says kissing me softly.

"Okay." Is the only word I can muster from my mouth. Tobias takes my hand and leads me out the room. We walk through the Dauntless compound and up to the glass building where Wills office is. We knock on the door and his assistant lets us go in. Will sees us and walks over to us shaking first Tobias' hand and then he hugs me.

"What can I help you with?" He asks.

"We need to tell you something." I begin. I look to Tobias, then to the floor and then slowly my eyes move up and lock on Wills face. "Something very important!"
