Divergent Love

Chapter 24

Fear landscape day. The day in which our 12 remaining initiates face their fears in there very own fear landscapes. Today is the day of their final test and the final day of initiation. Later today the cuts will be announced and then tomorrow the top 10 initiates will choose their future careers here in dauntless in descending order. I wonder if they will need any new government leaders? The day after the that is a holiday day and at night there is a huge party in the pit you have to be a member to get in so all the children are sent to the nursary area for the night. They have their own kind of party without the alcohol and fun that the members one has. I wonder when the day will come that my children will go there and I will party all night long with Tobias, Christina, Will, Uriah, Marlene, Lynn and hopefully Zeke and all the others.

I awake and get dressed quickly. I dress nice as alot of people will see me today, including all our leaders and alot of the members. We walk to the glass building awaiting for the dauntless borns. They where told to be here an hour before the transfers. The leaders including Will, Eric, Max and two young women probably in their 20s and 30s called Tyra and Yvonne sit in a line behind a desk with wires coming out of their heads in all different directions which hook up to the machine Tobias will operate. My job is to call each initiate in turn and inject them with the serum and then send them on their way into the fear landscape. I must do this 12 times.

Dauntless rules claim that the order of who goes first in the final stage is that the dauntless borns go first start with who got the lowest score between stage 1 and 2 moving up to who got the highest and then the exact same with the transfers after. First to go in is Luke. As suspected he takes a very long time. He faces 20 fears and it takes him 40 minutes. I really don't know how it took him that long! Next to go in is Luke who faces 14 fears in 20 minutes. Then it's Carla's turn and she faces 9 fears in 10 minutes, that's a very good score. Then Vicki who faces 12 fears in 15 minutes which again is a gd score. Now it's Sara.

"Last day of initiation and if I pass which I will, we will be equals right?" She asks mockingly.

"Yes, that's correct." I reply sternly.

"Good, then it won't be so awkward." She hesitates.

"Why would it w awkward?" I ask.

"Let me tell you a secret Six." She giggles, "Me and Zeke are dating!"

"He is is like 7 years older than you Sara," I say with shock.

"Age is only a number, he loves me and I him!" She the. Holds onto my arm and giggles. "You of all people must know what true love is like! I mean Four was your instructor."

"Yes, but there was only two years between us and our circumstances were different." I say.

"We'll whatever. I better get this test over and done with." She laughs like its just some thing she must do in life like its not a really big deal for her to do well. Well whatever her intentions she has 8 fears in 7 minutes. She was super quick.

The transfers begin to arrive just as I send Zach into the simulation. He faces 6 fears in 6 minutes. That's really good! I'm proud of him. Something inside me screams divergent, but I know I cannot trust Zach. He hasn't gained trust off me yet.

The transfers sit in the row of seats the dauntless borns just sat in. I walk towards them.

"Today is the day of your test, good luck. You'll need it." I smile over to Tobias and then he looks up from his computer smiles back and addresses the initiates.

"The score to beat is 10," he says.

"What 10?" Annie asks.

"The 10 is the scores combined between stage 1, 2 and 3."

"Okay!" Annie reassures herself.

"We start in descending order of your scores from stage 2. So Dean will go first and Katie will go last." I explain. "Good luck, Dean whenever your ready."

He walks towards me. I nod to Tobias who nods to Will who prepares the other leaders for the simulation. I insert the needle into his neck and push him through the door. He take 25 minutes to fave 16 fears. Noah takes 20 minutes to face 17 fears. I guess most of them are of Charlotte. Annie is next and faces 8 fears in 12 minutes. Violet the first jumper transferred from amity takes 10 minutes to face 7 fears. Liam shocks me. He takes 45 minutes to face 30 fears. Again I think they are about Charlotte or home or his cycotic brother. I know if I was related to him I would be terrified! Lastly Katie takes 4 minute to face 7 fears. She is utterly fearless. Not as fearless as me or Tobias, but fearless or again Divergent.

I then walk over to Tobias and kiss him on the lips.

"It's done for another year!" I sigh.

"Is this a good thing or a bad thing?" He asks pulling me closer.

"I can't decide." I shrug. "Good as life won't be so stressful and frantic but bad cause I won't see you every minute of everyday and night!"

"It'll be okay, I promise we will see each other lots and lots!" He kisses my temple. "We are engaged you know, should we not be planning a wedding?"

"Yes, I was thinking maybe in a couple of weeks we could get married?" I giggle kissing him through a smile of pearly teeth. I pull away to ask, "how does marriage work here in Dauntless?"

"We gather in the dining hall with all of dauntless there, one of the leaders make a speech about us and our love and usually end up talking about dauntless and how love is brave and all that nonsense and then we say our vows, the band of flowers get is tied and then we exchanged rings kiss sign a book and we are married." He explains.

"Sounds complicated!" I proclaim.

"Not really, all it takes is love..." He pulls me even closer into him before continuing,".... And trust. Do you trust me?"

"Always Tobias always!" I cry. I feel the tears wet on my cheeks and the soft smell of his fingers brushing them away.

"All this crying makes me think your so sad you don't want to marry me babe." He joke.

"I'm crying cause I'm so happy!" I choke kissing him even more.

We walk hand in hand back to our apartment for a couple of hours rest and love making before the cuts are announced. I predict that Luke and dean will be cut.
