Divergent Love

Chapter 25

We kiss and talk for ages and soon drift off into a relaxing snooze. We wake up when we hear the shuffling of feet in the corridors. The feet belonging to the rest of my faction as they head to the pit to hear who is being cut and who will stay.

Eric makes his way up to a podium. He does the same speech as usual trying to be whitty but fails to mine and Tobias' eye everyone else laughs along with him. He ends his speech every year with explaining how tomorrow they will all pick their jobs in turn. I begin to focus now. My initiates are now facing their final fear, have they succeed through initiation?

Eric then gestures to the screen behind him on cue and the names are listed below. In order of how well they have succeeded. It reads,

1- Katie

2- Zach

3- Sara

4- Carla

5- Violet

6-Vicki

7- Annie

8-Neil

9-Noah

10- Liam

11- Luke

12 - Dean

I was right, Dean and Luke have been cut. Liam is 10th though. A sense of joy ripples through me. I feel a hand rest on my shoulder, I turn round and it's Peter.

"We need to talk." He whispers.

"Why?" I argue quietly, "why would I ever want to speak to you."

"Because I know something," he smirks. "I know something about the Erudite."

"And what is that?" I ask.

"You think I would tell you hear infront of all these people." He whispers. "They could be spies Tris."

"How can I trust you?"

"You can or you can't." He says. "But Four cannot come, this is secret information which can only be shared between you and me."

"I don't trust you," I say. "How could I? After you tormented me, nearly killed me and declared to me why you hate my old faction when your excuse was so invalid!"

"Fine then, can I not believe in my own intentions Tris?" He asks.

"I don't know!" I yell. A few people turn and stare at me. I hear Tobias walking towards me.

"Is everything okay?" He asks me. I nod and he takes my hand and leads me away from Peter. I turn and look back and he is staring at me smirking. That is the Peter I know. The evil and brutal one.

"What was he saying to you?" Tobias asks me.

"He had some secret information about the Erudite he wanted to tell me." I reply.

"And did he?"

"No," I begin "he said I must go and meet him privately, alone and without you."

"Your not going to go are you?" Tobias angrily asks.

"Of course I will go but not alone." I smile.

"How?" He asks.

"We will arrange a time to meet him." I say. "You will hide somewhere so you can listen and also be there incase he tries to kill or attack me again."

"Okay," he replies. "When will we arrange this?"

"I'll talk to him at the initiation party tomorrow night. I will arrange a time then."

We continue walking finalising our plan and go and see our new initiates become members. At the party the initiates will choose there jobs infront of the whole faction. Liam will no doubt end up as a fence guard, just like his brother.

We walk past Dean and Luke who are trying to create a plan of where they will go. Will they stay together won't they? I think they do as the hold hands and walk in the direction of the dorms to collect there things and leave. I nudge Tobias and point after them.

"Are they a couple?" I ask.

"Yeah, I think so." He replies. "They met here, it's kind of sweet."

I nod in agreement and then continue walking to the apartment. I run into the bathroom and Luke up this is the 6th time this has happened to me in the past few days. I should probably go see a doctor. I will go and see Christina tomorrow.

We fall asleep in each others arms holding each other tightly.
