Amelia

It had been so long since we saw Sean. It had been hard on all of us but I know it must have been hard on her as well. I had the girls, we had each other to lean on but Sean, she chose a different way to deal with the pain and from what Morgan has said it was something Lacey would have done as well.

I smiled as I felt the shift and watched as the skin on my stomach protruded as the baby stretched and twisted, the baby had been a lot more active lately, the doctor stating that the baby's current living quarters were too constricting, and the constant jab to my bladder a testament to that fact.

"It's okay angel, it's almost time," I said rubbing my hand over the smooth bump. Lacey and I decided the day we found out we were having a baby that we did not want to know it's gender. It had been almost six months since she's been gone and I missed her so much. There wasn't a moment that went by  that I did not wish she was here. Every day I expected her to walk through the front door,  especially since they never recovered her body and I refused to give up hope regardless how much everyone said I needed to.

"Hey, what's got you so lost in thought?" Lauren plopped herself down next to me followed by Jackie who sat on my right.

"It's nothing, have you heard from Morgan and the others?" When Morgan left us at the diner something felt wrong and I hope Sean didn't change her mind about coming, She was my wife's sister after all and I wanted to get to know her. "I hope Sean hasn't changed her mind," I said voicing my thought.

"I hope not, I've been wanting to kick that scrawny ass for months." Lauren playfully growled making me laugh, she always thought she was bigger than everyone else, but the tiny woman sure could be intimidating.

I looked over to Jackie who sat quietly. "You must be excited?" Jackie shrugged her shoulders, making my brow arch. I knew she really liked Sean and as upset as she was when the young woman left I know for a fact that she was waiting for her. She quickly brushed off anyone who would ask her out.

"What?" She shot me a questioning look. This time Lauren huffed and crossed her arms over her chest and glared at her. her. "I just don't want to get my hopes up," Jackie sighed, "I mean losing Lacey was hard on us all."

My heart ached to hear her refer to Lacey that way, no matter what anyone thought or even if it was true I just wasn't ready to let go. "Sean's leaving was unexpected, don't get me wrong I understand why but it was still selfish to only think of herself." I placed my hand on Jackie's. She was hurt but I was sure once she saw the young soldier all would be forgiven.

Lauren's phone rang, that glint in her eyes giving away the caller. "Where are you?" She snapped through the phone. I shook my head. Lauren loved giving Morgan a hard time when she was called away but her love for Lacey's best friend was undeniable.

I scooted forward on the couch needing badly to go to the restroom. The added bodies on the couch only making me sink back into the cushion further. "Bet you can't wait for it to be over," Jackie smiled standing up to offer me a hand. "I remember how difficult moving was for me my last few months with Jacey."

As though summoned, the front floor flew open and flash of blonde hair bolted into the living room. "Is she here?" She shrieked excitedly as she ran through the house. "Where Is she?"

"Baby, Sean is not here yet," Jackie called out as I made my way to the stairs.

"No mummy, not Sean, where's Ley?" I whipped around quickly wanting to quiet her down, no one knew she and I talked about Lacey, Jay had told me from the beginning Lacey was sleeping and that she'd be home when she felt better. At first, I took it that sleeping was Jackie's explanation for the funeral service that was held, that it was just a simpler way to explain death to a child.

"Lia she's awake," she grinned. My heart sped up not because I believed her but it was just the thought alone. I knew better but I missed my wife so much I'd believe anything.

"Jace!" Jackie yelled, "that's enough." I stepped down too quickly wanting to get to Jay the last thing I remembered was seeing her blue eyes widen as my legs buckled from under me.

Feeling the warmth of a body beside me I let out a small whimper and curled into the person. My thoughts drifted to Lacey, her dark hair, mesmerizing blue eyes, her rock hard abs, I imagined myself wrapping my hand around her firm midsection and buried my face in the crook of her neck.

"Um, Amelia?"

My eyes shot open and I saw a familiar figure sitting beside me on the bed, I sighed disappointedly since it was not the person I expected. I saw that my arms wrapped around her waist as she sat, looking at me questioningly. I immediately pulled away and apologized, "Sorry Sean thought you were.." I drifted off thinking of those blue eyes.

"Lacey." She blurted, her voice holding a mixture of sadness and excitement .

"Lia, are you okay?" Jacey ran into the room and jumped on the bed. Jackie walked in behind her.

"Jace, be careful." She warned as the little girl yawned ignoring her mother and  wrapped her arms around me.

"What happened?" I asked stroking my hand though Jacey's golden locks who was already fast asleep, I shook my head wishing I could just fall asleep that quickly.

"You fainted and I brought you here." Jackie answered, though her eyes were not on me but on the short haired woman sitting uncomfortably beside me. "Have you told her?"

"Told me what?" I asked looking between the two.  Lauren and Morgan walked into the room. Sean got up and walked over to Jackie and hesitantly took her hand whispering something into her ear. She turned around and looked and Jacey before giving me a smile.  She returned her attention on Jackie and led her out of the door.

"Hi, how are you feeling?" Lauren sat next to me and grabbed my hand, she looked like she'd been crying.

"I'm good, we're good," I rubbed my tummy, "are you okay?"

"It's about Lacey, " Lauren started.

"Oh, it's okay, Jay and I always talk about her," I looked down at the sleeping child. "She misses her as much as we do,  so it's ok that she...."

"Amelia, she's alive."
